Tohoku University scholarships are awarded mostly based on merit to Indian students. Some popular ones include the MEXT Scholarship and the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship. Some private scholarships given by certain private Japanese foundations are also available to students. - Belong to a country with which Japan shares diplomatic ties
- Must be 18 years or older at the time of admission
- Have completed 12 years of schooling equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school with at least 80% in Class X, XI, and XII
- Show interest in learning the Japanese language
- Submit a Health certificate
- Hold a new and recently issued Japanese student visa

- 48,000 Yen (INR 28.6 K) for 12 months (April-March) or 6 months (Oct-March)

- Be a Privately-financed international student
- Achieved excellent results on the exam for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)
- Plan to enroll as a regular student in a Japanese university UG school
