Indian Institute of Mass Communication Exam Pattern

IIMC admissions for most programmes are based on the CUET PG 2026 exam, conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode by NTA. The qualifying paper for IIMC is Mass Communication and Journalism (COQP17).

  • Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Total Questions: 75 MCQs
  • Total Marks: 300 marks (75 × 4)
  • Correct Answer: +4 marks
  • Wrong Answer: −1 mark (negative marking applies)
  • Unattempted Question: 0 marks
  • Question Type: MCQs only
  • Medium: English and Hindi
  • Paper Code: COQP17 — Mass Communication and Journalism
  • Scoring Method: NTA normalises scores across shifts; final rank is percentile-based

NTA uses a normalisation process to equalise difficulty levels across different exam sessions. Your CUET PG rank — not raw score — is what IIMC uses for seat allotment. A lower rank number means a better score.

For the PG Diploma in Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam Journalism, IIMC conducts a separate entrance test. This exam runs independently of the CUET PG cycle.

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper)
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Total Marks: 100 marks
  • Question Types: Objective MCQs + Descriptive / Short Answer / Essay
  • Medium: Relevant regional language plus English or Hindi
  • Additional Round: Personal Interview (for final selection)
