IPMAT 2026 Detailed Exam Pattern

IPMAT 2026 has three compulsory sections, each with its own subject focus, question type, and fixed 40-minute time limit. Sections open sequentially — once the timer for one section expires, it locks automatically and the next section begins.

Candidates cannot skip ahead, skip back, or carry unused time from one section to another. Post-exam analysis of the May 4, 2026 paper confirmed this structure was followed as expected.

Negative marking of 1 mark applies to MCQ sections (Section 2 and Section 3) — avoid random guessing in these sections.

Section Subject No. of Questions Marks per Question Total Marks Duration
Section 1 Quantitative Ability — Short Answer (TITA) 15 +4 (no negative marking) 60 40 minutes
Section 2 Quantitative Ability — MCQ 30 +4 (−1 for wrong) 120 40 minutes
Section 3 Verbal Ability — MCQ 45 +4 (−1 for wrong) 180 40 minutes
Total 90 360 marks 120 minutes

Note: All three sections are compulsory and must be attempted in the fixed order — Section 1 first, then Section 2, then Section 3. Each section’s 40-minute timer is strictly enforced by the exam system; unanswered questions in a closed section cannot be revisited.

There is no per-question time limit within a section — candidates can distribute the 40 minutes freely across all questions in that section.

IPMAT Marking Scheme 2026

The IPMAT 2026 marking scheme awards 4 marks for every correct answer across all three sections. The critical difference is in wrong answers: MCQ sections carry a penalty of 1 mark for every incorrect response, while the Short Answer section carries no negative marking.

This asymmetry should directly shape the attempt strategy. Candidates should attempt all 15 Short Answer questions, and skip MCQs where the options cannot be narrowed with reasonable confidence.

IPMAT Marking Scheme 2026

IPMAT 2026 has different marking rules for each section. The table below shows the marks for correct, wrong, and unattempted answers.

Question Type Section Marks for Correct Answer Marks for Wrong Answer Marks for Unattempted
Short Answer / TITA (Numerical) Section 1 — QA Short Answer +4 0 0
MCQ (Single Correct, 4 options) Section 2 — QA MCQ +4 −1 0
MCQ (Single Correct, 4 options) Section 3 — Verbal Ability +4 −1 0

Negative marking of 1 mark applies to MCQs in Sections 2 and 3. Avoid random guessing in Quantitative Ability MCQ and Verbal Ability.

There is no negative marking for Short Answer (TITA) questions in Section 1. Attempt every question in this section regardless of your level of certainty.

IIM Indore does not award partial marks. Each question is fully correct, wrong, or unattempted, and scored accordingly. Unattempted questions carry zero marks across all sections.

IPMAT Subject-Wise Exam Pattern 2026

IPMAT 2026 tests students on two core subjects — Quantitative Ability (split across Sections 1 and 2) and Verbal Ability (Section 3 only). Together, these cover 90 questions for 360 marks.

IIM Indore does not release an official topic-wise distribution. The question counts below are indicative, based on post-exam analysis of the May 4, 2026 paper.

Section 1: Quantitative Ability — Short Answer (15 Questions, 60 Marks)

The QA Short Answer section has 15 questions for 60 marks with no negative marking. You type your answer directly — there are no options to choose from.

The 2026 paper was rated easy to moderate for this section, with application-based numerical problems forming the bulk of the questions.

Topic Area Approx. No. of Questions Marks
Arithmetic (Percentages, Ratios, Time-Speed-Distance, Profit and Loss) 3–5 12–20
Algebra (Equations, Sequences, Progressions) 3–4 12–16
Geometry and Mensuration 2–4 8–16
Number Systems (HCF, LCM, Divisibility, Remainders) 2–3 8–12
Modern Mathematics (Probability, Permutation and Combination) 1–3 4–12
Total 15 60

Section 2: Quantitative Ability — MCQ (30 Questions, 120 Marks)

The QA MCQ section has 30 questions for 120 marks with a −1 penalty per wrong answer. This was the hardest section in IPMAT 2026, rated moderate to difficult by students and coaching institutes.

Geometry and Algebra dominated the 2026 paper, with one Data Interpretation set included. The good-attempt range post-exam was estimated at 13–17 questions.

Topic Area Approx. No. of Questions Marks
Geometry, Mensuration and Coordinate Geometry 5–8 20–32
Algebra (Quadratics, Functions, Inequalities) 5–7 20–28
Arithmetic (Percentages, Averages, Time and Work) 3–5 12–20
Modern Mathematics (Permutation, Combination, Probability) 3–5 12–20
Trigonometry 2–3 8–12
Number Systems 2–3 8–12
Data Interpretation (Tables, Charts) 2–3 8–12
Total 30 120

Section 3: Verbal Ability — MCQ (45 Questions, 180 Marks)

Verbal Ability is the largest and highest-scoring section in IPMAT 2026 — 45 MCQs for 180 marks, forming exactly 50% of the paper’s total marks.

IPMAT 2026 featured three Reading Comprehension passages (up from two in 2025), and vocabulary questions saw higher emphasis this year, making it moderate to difficult overall.

Topic Area Approx. No. of Questions Marks
Reading Comprehension (RC Passages — 3 passages in 2026) 12–15 48–60
Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, Word Usage, Analogies) 8–10 32–40
Para-Jumbles and Para-Completion 5–7 20–28
Grammar and Sentence Correction 5–7 20–28
Fill in the Blanks and Verbal Reasoning 5–7 20–28
Total 45 180

IPMAT Question Types 2026

IPMAT 2026 uses two types of questions — MCQ (multiple-choice questions) and TITA (Type In The Answer, also called Short Answer).

The question type determines both your response method and whether a wrong answer carries a penalty. Understanding both formats before exam day is essential.

IPMAT Question Types and Marking Scheme

The Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) uses two question types: TITA and single-correct MCQ. The table below shows the complete breakdown of sections, questions, and marking.

Question Type Section(s) No. of Questions How to Answer Negative Marking
Short Answer / TITA (Numerical) Section 1 — QA Short Answer 15 Type numerical answer in text box — no options given None
MCQ — Single Correct (4 options) Section 2 — QA MCQ, Section 3 — Verbal Ability 75 Select one correct option from four choices −1 per wrong answer

Type 1: Short Answer / TITA — Section 1 Only

Section 1 has 15 TITA-type (Type In The Answer) questions. A numerical value is typed directly into a text box, with no answer options provided.

There is no negative marking in this section. A wrong entry earns 0 marks rather than −1, so every question should be attempted.

  • Format: Numerical answer typed directly into a text box (no options provided)
  • Applies to: Section 1 — Quantitative Ability Short Answer (all 15 questions)
  • Negative Marking: None — a wrong entry earns 0, not −1
  • Strategy: Attempt all 15 questions — there is zero risk from wrong answers in this section

Type 2: MCQ — Single Correct — Sections 2 and 3

Sections 2 and 3 contain only single-correct MCQs, each with four options. Selecting a wrong option deducts 1 mark from the score.

Blind guessing is risky because a wrong answer costs 5 marks in net swing (+4 expected minus −1 actual). A question should be skipped rather than guessed if at least two options cannot be eliminated.

  • Format: Four options (A, B, C, D) — select exactly one correct answer
  • Applies to: Section 2 (QA MCQ, 30 questions) and Section 3 (Verbal Ability, 45 questions)
  • Negative Marking: −1 for every wrong selection
  • Strategy: Attempt only when reasonably confident; skip if options cannot be narrowed to two

IPMAT 2026 does not include MSQ (multiple select questions), assertion-reason format, or passage-matching question types. The format is limited to TITA and single-correct MCQ.

IPMAT Exam Pattern: Changes in 2026 vs Previous Year

The structural pattern of IPMAT 2026 remained unchanged from IPMAT 2025. The same three sections, 90 questions, 360 marks, and 40-minute sectional timing apply.

Post-exam reports from the May 4, 2026 test confirmed no structural deviations. However, students and coaching institutes noted clear differences in topic distribution and section-wise difficulty, particularly in QA MCQ and Verbal Ability.

Note: Topic distribution data is based on student reports and coaching institute analyses of IPMAT 2026 (May 4, 2026). IIM Indore does not release an official topic-wise distribution post-exam.

How to Prepare Based on IPMAT Exam Pattern

The IPMAT preparation strategy should be shaped directly by the exam's structure. The exam has three strictly timed sections, two question formats with different penalty rules, and a significant 50% weightage in Verbal Ability.

Use the pattern logic, not just topic lists, to plan the daily approach and mock-test strategy.

IPMAT 2026 Exam Pattern Overview

IPMAT 2026 is a 120-minute computer-based test with 90 questions across three sections. The total marks are 360, and each section carries a strict 40-minute time limit.

The exam was held on May 4, 2026, and the pattern was confirmed unchanged from the previous year.

Section-wise Breakdown

Section Question Type Number of Questions Marks Negative Marking
Section 1 — QA Short Answer TITA (Type In The Answer) 15 60 None
Section 2 — QA MCQ Multiple Choice 30 120 −1 per wrong answer
Section 3 — Verbal Ability MCQ Multiple Choice 45 180 −1 per wrong answer

Every correct answer earns +4 marks across all three sections. The total is 360 marks.

Subjects Covered

IPMAT 2026 covers Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. Quantitative Ability spans two sections — Short Answer and MCQ.

The QA syllabus includes Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Number Systems, Probability, and Data Interpretation. Verbal Ability includes Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Para-Jumbles, Sentence Correction, and Grammar.

Time Limit and Section Locking

The total duration of IPMAT 2026 is 120 minutes. Each of the three sections has a fixed 40-minute time limit.

Once 40 minutes are up for a section, the system locks it automatically and opens the next section. You cannot transfer unused time from one section to another, and you cannot return to a locked section.

Negative Marking Rules

Negative marking applies only to MCQ sections. A wrong answer in Section 2 (QA MCQ) or Section 3 (Verbal Ability) results in a deduction of 1 mark.

Section 1 (QA Short Answer) carries no negative marking. All 15 questions in this section can be attempted without any penalty for wrong answers.

Strategy for Section 1 — QA Short Answer

Attempt all 15 Short Answer questions without hesitation. Section 1 carries no negative marking.

Even if an answer is uncertain, enter the best numerical estimate. A wrong entry costs nothing, but a correct one earns 4 marks. Leaving any Short Answer question blank is a strategy mistake with no upside.

Strategy for Sections 2 and 3 — MCQ Sections

Apply a selective attempt strategy in Sections 2 and 3. The −1 penalty means an attempt with less than 25% chance of being correct harms the score.

Skip questions where at least two of the four options cannot be eliminated. A score of 30 correct and 0 wrong beats a score of 35 correct and 15 wrong by 15 marks.

Verbal Ability Preparation Priority

Prioritise Verbal Ability preparation to reflect its 50% share of total marks. Section 3 (45 questions, 180 marks) equals the combined marks of both QA sections.

A strong VA score can offset a tough QA MCQ section — the reverse is also true. Build daily RC and vocabulary habits at least 8 weeks before the exam.

QA MCQ — Geometry and Algebra Focus

Build Geometry and Algebra strength specifically for QA MCQ. IPMAT 2026 showed higher Geometry weightage (~8 questions in QA) than 2025, while Arithmetic saw fewer questions.

Cover triangles, circles, coordinate geometry, and mensuration thoroughly alongside quadratic equations and functions.

Mock Test Pacing

Practise strict 40-minute sectional cutoffs in every mock test. The system locks sections automatically.

Practising with carryover time gives a false read on actual pacing. Use a hard 40-minute timer per section in all mocks — stop the moment 40 minutes expire, regardless of remaining questions.

RC Reading Speed for Three-Passage Format

Improve RC reading speed and accuracy for the three-passage VA format. IPMAT 2026 had three RC passages versus two in 2025.

Within 40 minutes, three passages plus vocabulary and grammar questions demand fast, accurate reading. Practise the question-first approach — scan questions before reading the full passage to prioritise what to absorb.

Sectional Cut-offs

Target sectional cut-offs alongside the overall score. IIM Indore applies sectional cut-offs in its shortlisting process.

A very high Verbal Ability score cannot compensate for falling below the QA threshold. Prepare all three sections to a minimum viable level before focussing on strongest areas.

IPMAT 2026 Exam Pattern and Key Changes

IPMAT 2026 has the same structure as IPMAT 2025. There are three sections, 90 questions, 360 marks, and 40-minute sectional time limits.

Content-level differences were observed in the 2026 exam. Verbal Ability had three reading comprehension (RC) passages, up from two in 2025. Quantitative Aptitude (QA) multiple-choice questions (MCQ) were harder, while QA Short Answer questions were easier. Geometry had higher weightage, Arithmetic had fewer questions, and vocabulary emphasis in Verbal Ability increased.

What is a TITA Question in IPMAT 2026?

TITA stands for Type In The Answer. These are short answer questions where a numerical value is typed directly into a text box instead of selecting from options.

All 15 questions in Section 1 (QA Short Answer) of IPMAT 2026 are TITA-type. There is no negative marking for TITA questions because there are no options to misselect.

Section Weightage in IPMAT 2026

Section 3, Verbal Ability, carries the highest weightage in IPMAT 2026. It has 45 questions for 180 marks, which is exactly 50% of the paper.

The total mark value of Verbal Ability equals the combined marks of both Quantitative Ability sections (60 + 120 = 180). Performing well in Verbal Ability is critical for a high overall score.

IPMAT 2026 Preparation Strategy

IPMAT 2026 Preparation Strategy

A section-wise plan lets you build QA and VA skills simultaneously without wasting time. The strategy below fits a 4–6 month preparation window and applies to both IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak IPMAT.

Quantitative Ability Preparation

  • Start with NCERT Mathematics from Class 8 to 12. Every IPMAT QA topic has a direct NCERT chapter — skip this step and you will struggle with conceptual clarity in mocks.
  • Master Arithmetic before any other topic area. Number System, Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, and Time-Speed-Distance together form approximately 25% of all QA questions.
  • Practise Short Answer questions daily from Month 2 onward. SA questions need exact numerical answers with no options to rely on — your calculation accuracy must be higher here than in MCQ.
  • Solve at least 40 QA problems daily across all topic areas and log your accuracy per topic every week.
  • Revise Geometry and Coordinate Geometry from Class 9–10 NCERT. Triangle properties, Circle theorems, and the equation of a line appear in the IPMAT QA MCQ section every year.

Verbal Ability Preparation

  • Read 2–3 full-length English passages every day — from The Hindu or Indian Express for news-style RC and The Economist for analytical passages. This builds reading speed and vocabulary together.
  • Use Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis — target 15–20 new words daily with contextual usage in sentences, not rote lists.
  • Practise Grammar one topic at a time: Subject-Verb Agreement, Tenses, and Prepositions are the three most-tested grammar areas in IPMAT VA papers.
  • Attempt at least 5 Para Jumble questions daily from Month 2 onward to build logical text-flow recognition.
  • Attempt the full VA section under a 40-minute timer from Month 2. Section-level time management is a skill separate from topic knowledge.

Logical Reasoning Preparation (IIM Rohtak IPMAT)

  • Prioritise Seating Arrangements, Blood Relations, Directions, and Syllogisms first. These four areas collectively cover 40–50% of the LR section in Rohtak’s IPMAT.
  • Practise Coding-Decoding and Number Series daily — these are fast-scoring areas if you can identify the pattern quickly.
  • Attempt full Rohtak-pattern mocks (3 sections including LR) from Month 3 onward to calibrate LR timing.

Mock Tests and Final Revision

  • Start full-length IPMAT mock tests at least 3 months before the exam. Attempt 2 mocks per week in Month 3, then 3–4 per week in the final 4 weeks.
  • Analyse every mock without exception. Classify each wrong answer as a concept error, calculation error, or time-pressure error — each type requires a different corrective action.
  • Stop starting new topics 4 weeks before the exam. Use the final month only for revision, mock tests, and weak-area drills.
IPMAT Syllabus FAQs

Ques. Which are the most important topics in IPMAT 2026 Quantitative Ability?

Ans. Based on IPMAT paper analysis from 2019 to 2025, the highest-priority QA topics are: Number System, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time Speed and Distance (from Arithmetic), Linear and Quadratic Equations (from Algebra), Properties of Triangles and Circles (from Geometry), and Permutation and Combination (from Modern Math). These together account for approximately 55–60% of all QA questions.

Ques. Has the IPMAT syllabus been revised for 2026?

Ans. No. IIM Indore has not revised the IPMAT syllabus for 2026. The topic list, section structure, and marking scheme remain the same as in previous years. Always verify by downloading the latest Information Brochure from iimindore.ac.in when registrations open for the next cycle.

Ques. What is the difference between IIM Indore IPMAT and IIM Rohtak IPMAT syllabi?

Ans. IIM Indore IPMAT has QA MCQ (40 questions), QA Short Answer (20 questions), and VA MCQ (40 questions) — 100 questions total. IIM Rohtak IPMAT replaces the Short Answer sub-section with a full Logical Reasoning section (40 questions) — 120 questions total. Both exams share similar QA and VA topics, but Rohtak tests LR topics like Blood Relations, Coding-Decoding, Puzzles, and Syllogisms as a separately scored section.

Ques. Does IPMAT 2026 have negative marking?

Ans. Yes, but only for MCQ sections. The QA MCQ section and the VA section both carry a penalty of −1 mark per wrong answer. The QA Short Answer section has no negative marking. You should attempt Short Answer questions fully while exercising caution in the two MCQ sections.

Ques. Is Reading Comprehension important for IPMAT Verbal Ability?

Ans. Yes — RC is the most important area in IPMAT Verbal Ability. It contributes approximately 40% of all VA questions (15–18 out of 40). Each IPMAT paper includes 2–3 passages of 400–700 words each. Strong RC performance alone can significantly improve your overall VA score and composite rank.

Ques. How many months of preparation is enough for IPMAT?

Ans. Most students who perform well in IPMAT prepare for 4–6 months. Month 1–2: NCERT Maths and basic QA concepts plus daily vocabulary. Month 3: Full topic coverage and first mock tests. Month 4–5: Intensive mock practice with error analysis. Month 6: Revision only, 3–4 full mocks per week. Students with strong Maths foundations can compress this to 3–4 months by reducing QA fundamentals time.

Ques. What books should I use for IPMAT Verbal Ability preparation?

Ans. The three most useful books for IPMAT VA are: (1) Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis for vocabulary, (2) Objective English for Competitive Examinations by H.S. Bhatia for grammar and sentence correction, and (3) How to Prepare for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for CAT by Arun Sharma for RC strategy and para jumbles. CAT-level VA preparation fully covers the IPMAT VA syllabus.

Ques. Can I apply for both IIM Indore IPMAT and IIM Rohtak IPMAT in the same year?

Ans. Yes. Both exams have separate registration processes, separate exam dates, and separate selection criteria. IIM Indore IPMAT 2026 was held on May 4 and IIM Rohtak IPMAT 2026 was held on May 10 — giving you the option to sit both in the same cycle. Each institution shortlists and selects independently.

Cut-offs

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Official Details

IIM Indore declared the IPMAT 2026 cutoff on May 25, 2026. The cutoff was released along with the Personal Interview shortlist. The result and cutoff are available on iimidr.ac.in.

Only 838 candidates out of 17,916 positive scorers cleared all section cutoffs. This is a shortlist rate of under 5% for the Personal Interview round.

Category-Wise Cutoffs for IPMAT 2026

IIM Indore sets a separate minimum score for each section. Candidates must clear the minimum in QA (MCQ), QA (Short Answer), and Verbal Ability independently. Falling short in even one section means no PI call, no matter how high the total score is.

Category QA (MCQ) QA (SA) Verbal Ability
General 27 28 111
SC 18 12 60
ST and PwD 13 8 40

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Important Dates

  • Cutoff declaration: May 25, 2026
  • Personal Interview: Third week of July 2026
  • Final merit list: Expected August – September 2026

IPMAT Previous Year Cutoff Trends

The QA (MCQ) cutoff fell from 81 marks in 2025 to 27 marks in 2026. That is a drop of 54 marks. This reflects a much harder MCQ paper in 2026.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Other Institutions

IIM Rohtak's IPMAT uses percentile-based cutoffs. The General category there is expected around 80 to 85 percentile in 2026.

JIPMAT (for IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu) has lower cutoffs. The General percentile there is around 70 to 80.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Selection Process

There are two types of cutoffs. The Written Test (WT) cutoff is the section-wise minimum needed to get a PI call. The final admission cutoff is the composite score (WT + PI) that decides who gets a seat.

Clearing the WT cutoff earns an interview. It does not guarantee admission. The shortlist for 150 seats is very tight.

Key Summary

  • The IPMAT 2026 cutoff was officially declared on May 25, 2026. General candidates needed 27 in QA MCQ, 28 in QA SA, and 111 in VA to clear the shortlist.
  • Only 838 of 17,916 positive-scorers cleared all section cutoffs – under 5%.
  • The QA (MCQ) cutoff fell 54 marks from 2025 to 2026 – from 81 to 27.
  • IIM Rohtak and JIPMAT institutions offer IPM programmes with lower cutoffs.
  • The final merit list is expected in August – September 2026 after PIs in the third week of July.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Section-Wise Minimum Scores

IIM Indore has officially declared the IPMAT 2026 cutoffs. The table below lists the minimum qualifying scores for each section and the overall cutoff across different categories.

Year Category QA (MCQ) Min. (/160) QA (SA) Min. (/80) VA Min. (/160) Overall Min. (/400)
2026 General 27 28 111 166
2026 EWS 17 16 79 112
2026 NC-OBC 23 12 78 113
2026 SC 18 12 60 90
2026 ST / PwD 13 8 40 61
2025 General 81 24 112 217
2025 NC-OBC 15 12 78 105
2025 EWS 18 16 87 121
2025 SC 10 12 65 87
2025 ST 6 8 48 62
2024 General 172
2024 NC-OBC 113
2024 EWS 131
2024 SC 90

Section-wise data for 2024 was not separately published by IIM Indore. Only overall minimums are available for that year. The 2026 cutoffs are officially declared by IIM Indore.

The biggest year-on-year change is in QA (MCQ). The General cutoff there fell from 81 marks in 2025 to 27 marks in 2026. That is a drop of 54 marks. The Verbal Ability cutoff stayed nearly flat, at 112 in 2025 and 111 in 2026. This shows that paper difficulty in a single section can dramatically shift the overall minimum.

Why Did the IPMAT 2026 QA (MCQ) Cutoff Drop So Sharply from 2025?

The QA (MCQ) paper in 2026 was considerably harder than in 2025. Scores across the board were lower in that section. IIM Indore adjusted the cutoff downward to maintain enough candidates in the shortlist pool. Only 838 students cleared all three section cutoffs out of 17,916 positive scorers.

Difference Between Section Cutoff and Final Admission Cutoff

The section cutoff decides who gets a PI call. The final admission cutoff is the composite score (WT + PI) that decides who gets a seat. Clearing all section cutoffs earns you an interview. It does not guarantee admission.

The final merit list date is expected based on the previous year’s schedule. Check iimidr.ac.in for the official announcement.

Factors Affecting IPMAT Cutoff 2026

IIM Indore does not fix the cutoff in advance. Several factors determine the final numbers each year:

  • Exam difficulty per section: A harder section leads to lower raw scores. IIM Indore then lowers the section cutoff to maintain the shortlist size. The 2026 QA MCQ cutoff fell 54 marks due to a tougher paper.
  • Total candidates with positive scores: More candidates scoring above zero increases the pool. In 2026, 17,916 candidates had positive overall scores.
  • Target shortlist size: IIM Indore aims to shortlist around 800 to 900 candidates for PI. The cutoff is set to reach that target number.
  • Seats available: IIM Indore offers 150 seats plus 5 supernumerary for foreign nationals. The shortlist-to-seat ratio drives how competitive each stage is.
  • Category-wise seat quota: Each category has a fixed seat quota. The cutoff for each category is set to shortlist candidates for those seats only.
  • Score distribution: If most candidates cluster at similar scores, even small cutoff shifts have a large impact on who qualifies.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: IIM-Wise Closing Score

Multiple IIMs offer 5-year IPM programmes. Each sets its own cutoff. IIM Indore is the most competitive. The table below compares the 2026 cutoffs or expected ranges across all IPM-offering institutes.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Institute-Wise Expected and Declared Cutoffs

IIM Indore has officially declared its IPMAT 2026 cutoffs. IIM Rohtak and the JIPMAT institutes have expected cutoffs based on previous year trends.

Institute Exam Cutoff Type General NC-OBC SC ST
IIM Indore IPMAT (Indore) Section-wise score (out of 400) QA MCQ: 27 / QA SA: 28 / VA: 111 QA MCQ: 23 / QA SA: 12 / VA: 78 QA MCQ: 18 / QA SA: 12 / VA: 60 QA MCQ: 13 / QA SA: 8 / VA: 40
IIM Rohtak IPMAT (Rohtak) Percentile 80 – 85 (expected) 70 – 75 55 – 60 45 – 50
IIM Bodh Gaya JIPMAT Percentile 75 – 80 (expected) 65 – 70 50 – 55 40 – 45
IIM Jammu JIPMAT Percentile 70 – 75 (expected) 60 – 65 45 – 50 38 – 43
IIM Ranchi JIPMAT Percentile 68 – 74 (expected) 58 – 64 44 – 50 36 – 42
IIM Sirmaur JIPMAT Percentile 65 – 72 (expected) 55 – 62 42 – 48 35 – 40

IIM Indore uses section-wise minimum scores, not percentile. JIPMAT and IIM Rohtak use percentile. If the IIM Indore score falls short, a candidate can still apply to JIPMAT institutions. Their thresholds are lower and they offer strong IPM programmes.

Which IIM Has the Lowest IPMAT Cutoff?

IIM Sirmaur and IIM Ranchi (via JIPMAT) tend to have the lowest cutoffs. The General percentile cutoff there is around 65 to 74.

IIM Indore is far more competitive, requiring specific section minimums in all three sections. JIPMAT is a separate NTA-conducted exam.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Category-Wise Declared Cutoffs

IIM Indore released the category-wise section cutoffs on May 25, 2026. The table below shows the officially declared minimums for each category and section.

Category QA (MCQ) Min. (/160) QA (SA) Min. (/80) VA Min. (/160) Overall Min. (/400)
General 27 28 111 166
EWS 17 16 79 112
NC-OBC 23 12 78 113
SC 18 12 60 90
ST 13 8 40 61
PwD 13 8 40 61

Cutoffs were officially declared by IIM Indore on May 25, 2026 along with the PI shortlist. All scores are out of the respective section maximum.

The VA section carries the heaviest weight in the cutoff. For General candidates, the VA minimum of 111 out of 160 is far higher relative to the QA sections. Strong Verbal Ability is non-negotiable for clearing the IPMAT Indore cutoff.

IPMAT Cutoff: Section-Wise Minimum Marks Explained

IPMAT’s three-section structure makes the cutoff unique. A candidate must pass each section independently.

The table shows each section’s format and how the 2026 and 2025 General cutoffs compare.

Section Questions Marking Max Marks Gen Cutoff 2026 Gen Cutoff 2025
Quantitative Ability (MCQ) 40 +4 / −1 160 27 81
Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) 20 +4 / No negative 80 28 24
Verbal Ability 40 +4 / −1 160 111 112
Total 100 400 166 217

The QA (Short Answer) section has no negative marking. This makes it safer to attempt. The QA (MCQ) and VA sections carry a −1 penalty per wrong answer.

A poorly managed QA MCQ section can pull down the total. It can also cause a candidate to miss the section cutoff. In 2026, many candidates scored below the 2025 QA MCQ minimum of 81.

IPMAT Previous Year Cutoff Trends

The IPMAT cutoff is not a simple straight-line trend. It varies each year based on paper difficulty.

The table below shows the General category overall minimum (sum of all section cutoffs) across three years.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Category-Wise Minimum Scores

The IPMAT 2026 General category overall minimum cutoff at IIM Indore is 166 marks. This is the sum of the minimum scores required in all three sections for that category.

Year General (Min. Total) NC-OBC (Min. Total) EWS (Min. Total) SC (Min. Total) ST (Min. Total)
2026 166 113 112 90 61
2025 217 105 121 87 62
2024 172 113 131 90

The overall minimum is the sum of all three section cutoffs for that category. The 2026 and 2025 data are officially declared. The 2024 data is from previous cycle announcements; ST 2024 was not separately reported by all sources.

The General overall minimum fell from 217 in 2025 to 166 in 2026. That is a drop of 51 marks. This was driven almost entirely by the QA MCQ section, where the cutoff fell 54 marks from 81 to 27. The VA cutoff stayed flat, moving from 112 to 111.

The SC overall minimum held at 90 marks in both 2024 and 2026. The NC-OBC overall stayed at 113 in both 2024 and 2026, with 2025 being slightly lower at 105.

IPMAT cutoffs fluctuate heavily based on section difficulty. A hard paper in one section can drop the overall minimum by over 50 marks. Do not set a target based only on the previous year's cutoff.

Does a Lower IPMAT Cutoff Mean the Exam Was Easier?

No. A lower cutoff usually means the paper was harder. In 2026, the QA MCQ paper was much tougher than in 2025.

Scores fell, and IIM Indore lowered the section cutoff to still shortlist around 838 candidates. A low cutoff reflects a hard paper, not an easier admission standard.

IPMAT Marks vs Score: What Score Gets You In?

Knowing where your total score places you helps you set a realistic preparation target. The table maps score ranges to expected outcomes at IIM Indore for General candidates, using the 2026 declared cutoffs and past trends.

Total Score (out of 400) Expected Outcome – General Category (IIM Indore)
260 and above Strong PI call and competitive for final admission
220 – 259 Good chance of PI call (if all section cutoffs cleared). Admission depends on PI performance.
166 – 219 At or above the 2026 minimum. PI call possible only if all three section cutoffs are cleared.
120 – 165 Below IIM Indore General minimum. Consider IIM Rohtak or JIPMAT institutions.
Below 120 Not eligible for IIM Indore PI. Explore JIPMAT for IIM Bodh Gaya, Jammu, or Ranchi.

A total of 166 marks cleared the 2026 General cutoff. But only 838 students cleared all three section minimums. Many candidates had totals above 166 but still failed a section.

Section balance matters as much as total score. Aim for 220 or above in total and at least 111 in VA. The Verbal Ability minimum was the hardest threshold to clear for General candidates in 2026. A weak VA performance eliminates even high-total candidates from the shortlist.

IPMAT Cutoff 2026: Selection Process

Clearing the Written Test section cutoffs is only the first gate. Here is how the full selection process works at IIM Indore:

  • Step 1 – Written Test: Candidates appear for the IPMAT Written Test. In 2026, it was held on May 4.
  • Step 2 – Result and Cutoff: IIM Indore releases the result and section-wise cutoffs. In 2026, this was on May 25. Only candidates who cleared all three section cutoffs received a PI call.
  • Step 3 – Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for the PI. In 2026, PI was in the third week of July. The interview tests communication, reasoning, awareness, and motivation.
  • Step 4 – Composite Score: IIM Indore calculates a composite score using WT and PI scores. The exact weightage is published each year in the Selection Policy on iimidr.ac.in.
  • Step 5 – Final Merit List: Candidates rank within their category by composite score. Admission offers go in merit order within each category's seat quota.
  • Step 6 – Fee Payment: Selected candidates confirm admission by paying within the deadline. Waitlisted candidates get offers if earlier admits decline.

IIM Rohtak and JIPMAT institutes follow a similar multi-stage process. Their PI format and composite weightage may differ. Check each institute's official Selection Policy for exact details.

What Is the Weightage of WT vs PI in IPMAT Indore Final Selection?

IIM Indore typically assigns around 50 to 60 marks to the Written Test in the composite score. Around 40 to 50 marks go to the Personal Interview.

The exact split is published in the Selection Policy each year on iimidr.ac.in. Always verify the current year's document before your PI.

IPMAT Cutoff FAQs

Ques. What is the IPMAT 2026 cutoff for General category at IIM Indore?

The IPMAT 2026 General category overall minimum cutoff at IIM Indore is 166 marks. This is the sum of the minimum scores required in all three sections for that category.

IPMAT 2026 Cutoff at IIM Indore

IIM Indore officially declared the 2026 cutoffs on May 25, 2026. General candidates needed at least 27 in QA (MCQ), 28 in QA (SA), and 111 in Verbal Ability.

The overall minimum is 166 out of 400. All three sections must be cleared independently.

Number of Candidates Who Cleared the IPMAT 2026 Cutoff

Only 838 candidates cleared all three section cutoffs out of 17,916 who had positive overall scores. This is a very tight shortlist for 150 seats.

The PI stage narrows it further to arrive at the final admitted cohort.

Negative Marking in IPMAT and Its Effect on Cutoff

Yes, there is negative marking in IPMAT. QA (MCQ) and Verbal Ability carry a −1 penalty per wrong answer.

Only QA (Short Answer) has no negative marking. In 2026, a hard MCQ paper caused widespread low scores. The General QA MCQ cutoff fell from 81 in 2025 to 27 in 2026 as a result.

What Happens If You Clear the Overall Cutoff but Miss a Section Cutoff

You will not get a PI call. IIM Indore requires you to clear the section minimum in all three sections, not just the overall total.

A high total score with one weak section is not enough for shortlisting.

IPMAT Cutoff for IIM Rohtak

IIM Rohtak sets its cutoff in percentile, not raw marks. The General category cutoff is expected around 80 to 85 percentile in 2026.

IIM Rohtak conducts its own IPMAT separately from IIM Indore. You must apply and appear for each exam independently.

IPMAT 2026 Final Merit List Release Date

Personal Interviews were scheduled for the third week of July 2026. The final merit list and admission offers are expected in August – September 2026.

Check iimidr.ac.in for the official announcement.

Applying to Both IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak with the Same IPMAT Score

No. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak conduct separate IPMAT exams with separate applications. JIPMAT is a third separate NTA-conducted exam.

JIPMAT is accepted by IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Sirmaur. You must apply and appear for each exam separately.

IPMAT Cutoff for SC and ST Categories at IIM Indore in 2026

The officially declared 2026 SC cutoffs are: QA MCQ – 18, QA SA – 12, VA – 60 (overall: 90 marks). The ST cutoffs are: QA MCQ – 13, QA SA – 8, VA – 40 (overall: 61 marks).

In 2025, the SC overall minimum was 87 and ST was 62.

Safe Score to Target in IPMAT 2026

The declared 2026 General minimum is 166 marks out of 400. But clearing just the minimum is not enough for a competitive position.

Aim for 220 or above in total. Also aim for 111 or above in VA. That gives you a buffer and a stronger composite score heading into the PI.

Difference Between JIPMAT Cutoff and IPMAT Cutoff

Yes, the cutoffs differ. JIPMAT is an NTA-conducted exam for IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Sirmaur.

The cutoff is percentile-based and lower than IIM Indore’s section-wise score cutoff. A score that misses IIM Indore’s threshold may still qualify you for JIPMAT-based institutes.

IPMAT Written Test Cutoff vs Final Admission Cutoff

No, they are not the same. The WT cutoff is the section-wise minimum that earns you a PI shortlist call.

The final admission cutoff is the composite score (WT + PI) that decides who gets a seat. Clearing the WT cutoff is mandatory. But many students who clear it still miss a seat at the PI stage.

How the IPMAT 2026 Final Merit List Is Prepared

IIM Indore prepares the merit list using a composite score of WT and PI marks. The weightage is announced each year in the official Selection Policy.

Candidates rank within their category quota. Top-ranked candidates get admission offers first. Waitlisted candidates get offers if others decline.

IPMAT 2026 Cutoff Analysis

The IPMAT 2026 QA (MCQ) cutoff dropped sharply from 2025 because the paper was considerably harder. Scores across the board were lower in that section. IIM Indore adjusted the cutoff downward to maintain enough candidates in the shortlist pool. Only 838 students cleared all three section cutoffs out of 17,916 positive scorers.

Section Cutoff vs Final Admission Cutoff

The section cutoff decides who gets a PI call. The final admission cutoff is the composite score (WT + PI) that decides who gets a seat. Clearing all section cutoffs earns an interview. It does not guarantee admission.

IIM with the Lowest IPMAT Cutoff

IIM Sirmaur and IIM Ranchi (via JIPMAT) tend to have the lowest cutoffs. The General percentile cutoff there is around 65 to 74. IIM Indore is far more competitive, requiring specific section minimums in all three sections. JIPMAT is a separate NTA-conducted exam.

Does a Lower Cutoff Mean an Easier Exam?

No. A lower cutoff usually means the paper was harder. In 2026, the QA MCQ paper was much tougher than 2025. Scores fell, and IIM Indore lowered the section cutoff to still shortlist around 838 candidates. A low cutoff reflects a hard paper, not an easier admission standard.

Weightage of WT vs PI in Final Selection

IIM Indore typically assigns around 50 to 60 marks to the Written Test in the composite score. Around 40 to 50 marks go to the Personal Interview. The exact split is published in the Selection Policy each year on iimidr.ac.in. Always verify the current year's document before the PI.

Clearing Overall Cutoff but Missing a Section Cutoff

The final merit list and admission offers are expected in August - September 2026. Check iimidr.ac.in for the official announcement.

Safe Score to Target in IPMAT 2026

The declared 2026 General minimum is 166 marks out of 400. But clearing just the minimum is not enough for a competitive position. Aim for 220 or above in total. Also aim for 111 or above in VA. That gives a buffer and a stronger composite score heading into the PI.

JIPMAT Cutoff vs IPMAT Cutoff

Yes. JIPMAT is an NTA-conducted exam for IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Sirmaur. The cutoff is percentile-based and lower than IIM Indore's section-wise score cutoff. A score that misses IIM Indore's threshold may still qualify for JIPMAT-based institutes.

IPMAT Written Test Cutoff vs Final Admission Cutoff

The Written Test cutoff is not the same as the final admission cutoff. The Written Test cutoff determines shortlisting for the PI. The final admission cutoff combines Written Test and PI scores to determine the final selection.

IPMAT 2026 is a computer-based test of 120 minutes duration. The paper contains a total of 90 questions.

The exam has three sections: Quantitative Ability (Multiple Choice Questions), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer Questions), and Verbal Ability. Each correct answer in the MCQ section carries 4 marks, and each incorrect answer carries a negative marking of 1 mark.

Section Number of Questions Duration Marks per Correct Answer Negative Marking
Quantitative Ability (MCQ) 30 40 minutes 4 -1
Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) 30 40 minutes 4 None
Verbal Ability 30 40 minutes 4 -1

How to Apply

The application process is entirely online. Candidates must visit the official IIM Indore website to register.

  1. Register with a valid email ID and phone number.
  2. Fill in the online application form with personal and academic details.
  3. Upload scanned copies of photograph, signature, and required documents.
  4. Pay the application fee online.
  5. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference.

Selection Process

The selection process has two stages. The first stage is the written test (WT). The second stage is the Personal Interview (PI).

Shortlisting for the PI is based on the section-wise minimum cutoff in the WT. The final selection is based on a composite score of WT and PI marks.

WT Cutoff vs Final Admission Cutoff

The WT cutoff is the section-wise minimum that earns a candidate a PI shortlist call. The final admission cutoff is the composite score (WT + PI) that decides who gets a seat.

Clearing the WT cutoff is mandatory. However, many students who clear it still miss a seat at the PI stage.

Final Merit List Preparation

IIM Indore prepares the merit list using a composite score of WT and PI marks. The weightage is announced each year in the official Selection Policy.

Candidates rank within their category quota. Top-ranked candidates get admission offers first. Waitlisted candidates get offers if others decline.

What is IPMAT Result 2026?

IPMAT stands for Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test. IIM Indore conducts it for its own campus, and IIM Rohtak conducts it separately. It is the gateway exam for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM).

The IPMAT Result 2026 tells you two things: whether you cleared the qualifying cutoffs, and whether you have been shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI). The PI is the second and final stage before admission.

The two institutions run independent processes. Clearing the IPMAT Indore cutoff does not help your case at IIM Rohtak, and vice versa. Each result applies only to the institution that conducted the test.

IPMAT 2026 Qualifying Marks and Cutoff

IIM Indore uses sectional cutoffs. You must clear all three sections — QA MCQ, QA SA, and Verbal Ability — independently.

IIM Rohtak uses an overall score cutoff. No sectional minimums apply at IIM Rohtak.

IPMAT 2026 PI Shortlist

IIM Indore shortlisted 838 candidates for PI. IIM Rohtak shortlisted 453 General category candidates for Personal Interview.

Final admission at IIM Indore is based entirely on your aptitude test score and PI performance. Class 12 marks play no role in the calculation.

What After IPMAT Result 2026?

PI rounds were conducted in July 2026. IIM Indore prepares the final IPM merit list based solely on the aptitude test score and Personal Interview performance — your Class 12 board result has zero weight in the calculation.

IIM Indore final merit list is expected in the first week of August 2026. IIM Indore IPM has 150 domestic seats.

IPMAT Result Previous Year Statistics

IPMAT is one of the most competitive undergraduate management entrance exams in India. IIM Indore consistently shortlists around 800–840 candidates for PI every year — but with only 150 domestic seats on offer, the final admission rate works out to well under 1% of all candidates who sit for the test.

The table below tracks year-wise participation and PI shortlisting for IIM Indore across five cycles.

Year Approx. Applications (Indore) Positive Scorers (All Sections) PI Shortlisted (IIM Indore) Result Date
2026 50,000+ (Indore + Rohtak combined) 17,916 838 25 May 2026
2025 30,220 ~16,357 818 May 2025
2024 ~25,000 ~20,748 824 May 2024
2023 ~24,865 ~9,300+ ~820 May 2023
2022 ~30,000 ~18,000 ~800 May 2022

The IIM Indore PI shortlist has stayed remarkably stable — between 800 and 840 candidates — across five cycles, even as application numbers have fluctuated. IIM Indore controls the shortlist based on its seat intake, not the total candidate pool. In practical terms, that means rising competition but a fixed number of PI opportunities.

The table below shows how the General category qualifying benchmark for IIM Indore has shifted over recent years. From 2022–2025, the institute used an overall score cutoff. In 2026, it switched to sectional cutoffs, so a direct comparison with earlier overall-score thresholds is approximate.

IPMAT Qualifying Score Trends (IIM Indore)

IIM Indore's qualifying score for the General category has fluctuated over recent years. The format also changed in 2026 from an overall score cutoff to sectional cutoffs.

Year General Category Qualifying Benchmark (IIM Indore) Format
2022 ~175 / 360 Overall score cutoff
2023 ~176 / 360 Overall score cutoff
2024 ~172 / 360 Overall score cutoff
2025 ~164 / 360 Overall score cutoff
2026 QA MCQ ≥ 27 | QA SA ≥ 28 | VA ≥ 111 Sectional cutoffs (format change)

The 2025 qualifying score dipped slightly. The 2026 shift to sectional cutoffs suggests IIM Indore is refining its selection to reward balanced candidates who perform consistently across all three tested skills.

Ans. Use the "Forgot Password" option on the login page of the relevant official portal. You will need your registered email ID or mobile number to reset it. If the reset option does not work, contact the admissions helpdesk of the respective institute directly — email addresses and helpline numbers are listed on the official websites.

Ques. Can I check the IPMAT Result 2026 without logging in?

Ans. No. Both IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak require you to log in with your application number and password. There is no public result link and you can only view your own scorecard — not anyone else's.

IPMAT 2026 Scorecard Details

Your IPMAT 2026 scorecard is the official document confirming your result. Keep a downloaded copy — you will need it at the PI stage and again during final admission.

The IIM Indore scorecard contains:

  • Candidate name and application number
  • Category (General / EWS / NC-OBC / SC / ST / PwD)
  • Section-wise marks: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer), and Verbal Ability
  • Overall Aptitude Test Score
  • PI shortlist status — "Shortlisted for Personal Interview" or "Not Shortlisted"

If you spot any error in your name, category, or score, report it to the IIM Indore admissions office right away. Discrepancies can take time to resolve, and the PI call letter process begins quickly after the result.

The IIM Rohtak scorecard shows your overall score, category, and shortlist status. It does not display section-wise breakdowns in the same format since Rohtak uses an overall cutoff and not sectional minimums.

Important: Neither IIM Indore nor IIM Rohtak offers a re-checking or re-evaluation facility after the result. The answer-key objection window — which closed before the final key was published — was the only opportunity to dispute a scoring decision.

IPMAT 2026 Qualifying Marks and Cutoff

IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak use completely different cutoff structures. A strong overall score will not save you at IIM Indore if even one section falls below its minimum.

IIM Indore — Sectional Cutoffs 2026

IIM Indore sets a separate minimum for each of the three sections. You must cross all three simultaneously to qualify for the PI shortlist. Falling short in any one section — even by a single mark — disqualifies you, regardless of how well you did in the other two.

Category Quantitative Ability — Short Answer (QA SA) Quantitative Ability — MCQ (QA MCQ) Verbal Ability (VA)
General 28 27 111
EWS 16 17 79
NC-OBC / SC / ST / PwD To be officially published by IIM Indore

IIM Rohtak — Overall Cutoff 2026

IIM Rohtak sets a single overall score as the qualifying bar — there are no sectional minimums. Your total score across all sections determines your eligibility. A very high score in your stronger sections can make up for a relatively weaker one, unlike at IIM Indore.

IPMAT 2026 PI Shortlist

Clearing the cutoff places a candidate on the PI shortlist, not an admission offer. The Personal Interview is the second stage, and the final merit rank depends on the combined score of the aptitude test and PI performance. With 838 shortlisted candidates and 150 domestic seats at IIM Indore, competition at the PI stage remains intense.

IIM Indore PI Shortlist 2026

838 candidates were shortlisted from the 17,916 who scored positive marks across all three sections. This is roughly 4.7% of positive scorers, and a far smaller fraction of everyone who sat for the exam. The category-wise seat distribution for IIM Indore’s IPM 2026 batch is as follows:

Category IPM Seats — IIM Indore 2026
General 61
NC-OBC 41
SC 23
EWS 14
ST 11
PwD (horizontal reservation) ~5% across categories
Total Domestic Seats 150

IIM Rohtak PI Shortlist 2026

IIM Rohtak shortlisted 453 candidates from the General category for its PI round based on overall IPMAT Rohtak score. Reserved category candidates are shortlisted at lower overall score thresholds set category-wise. The IIM Rohtak final selection list is expected around July–August 2026.

Key Differences Between IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak Shortlisting

453 candidates from the General category were shortlisted for PI at IIM Rohtak in 2026. Category-wise cutoffs at IIM Rohtak are lower for reserved categories; all are based on the overall score alone.

The core practical difference: IIM Indore demands balanced performance across all three sections. IIM Rohtak rewards aggregate strength. If a candidate is very strong in QA but moderate in VA, IIM Rohtak’s format may suit that profile better.

Why Clearing Sectional Cutoffs May Not Ensure Shortlisting at IIM Indore

Clearing the sectional cutoffs is a necessary condition — not a sufficient one. IIM Indore shortlists a fixed number of candidates (838 in 2026). If a candidate cleared the cutoffs but was not shortlisted, it means higher-scoring candidates in that category filled all available PI slots. The cutoff is the floor; the actual competition happens above it for the limited number of PI spots.

Are the PI Shortlists for IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak Linked?

No. They are entirely separate. IPMAT Indore and the IIM Rohtak aptitude test are conducted independently by two different institutions. Being shortlisted at IIM Indore has no bearing on eligibility at IIM Rohtak, and vice versa. Each application is submitted separately, and each result is evaluated independently.

IIM Indore PI Format

The IIM Indore PI is a one-on-one interview lasting 15–30 minutes, conducted online. There is no Group Discussion (GD) or Written Ability Test (WAT) round. Topics typically cover general awareness, current affairs, academic background, hobbies, and motivation for the IPM programme. Shortlisted candidates receive a PI call letter with the specific date, time slot, and login details well in advance.

What After IPMAT Result 2026?

If a candidate is on the PI shortlist, the IPMAT 2026 journey has one more step. If not shortlisted, this year’s cycle ends here — but the path forward is worth knowing.

If shortlisted — next steps for IIM Indore

  • Personal Interview (PI): Conducted in the third week of July 2026, online. Shortlisted candidates received PI call letters with specific dates, login links, and document requirements. The PI is a 15–30 minute one-on-one interview — no GD or WAT round at IIM Indore.
  • Final Merit List: Expected in the first week of August 2026. IIM Indore publishes the merit list based on a composite of aptitude test score and PI performance. Class 12 marks carry no weight. Candidates are ranked separately within each category.
  • Admission Offer: Candidates on the final merit list receive an admission offer. Once accepted and the fee payment is completed, the seat is secured for the five-year IPM programme starting in the 2026–31 academic session.

For IIM Rohtak shortlisted candidates

  • PI rounds were held in June–July 2026. IIM Rohtak’s final selection list is expected around July–August 2026, after which admission offers are extended.
  • The IIM Rohtak final selection is also based on the aptitude test score and PI performance — check the official notification on admission.iimrohtak.ac.in for the precise weightage.

If not shortlisted

The 2026 IPMAT cycle is over. A candidate can attempt IPMAT again next year, provided the age and Class 12 eligibility criteria are still met — there is no cap on the number of attempts. Other IIM IPM programmes that accept JIPMAT scores have their own separate admission processes and may still be accessible within the eligibility window.

Candidates Shortlisted for PI in IPMAT 2026

At IIM Indore, 838 candidates were shortlisted for PI from the 17,916 who scored positive marks across all three sections. At IIM Rohtak, 453 General category candidates were shortlisted.

Category-wise shortlisting at both institutions is based on each institute's own category-specific cutoffs.

Sectional Cutoffs for General Category in IPMAT Indore 2026

For the General category at IIM Indore, the sectional cutoffs are as follows:

  • Quantitative Ability (Short Answer): 28
  • Quantitative Ability (MCQ): 27
  • Verbal Ability: 111

All three cutoffs must be cleared simultaneously. Falling short in even one section disqualifies a candidate regardless of performance in the other two.

IPMAT 2026 Final Merit List Release Date

The IIM Indore IPM 2026 final merit list is expected in the first week of August 2026. It will be published on iimidr.ac.in after the PI rounds, conducted in July 2026, are evaluated and scores compiled.

IIM Rohtak's final selection list is similarly expected around the same period.

Role of Class 12 Score in IPMAT Indore Admission

IIM Indore does not include Class 12 marks in the final IPM merit calculation. The rank depends entirely on the aptitude test score and PI performance.

Class 12 eligibility criteria must be cleared at the time of application. The typical requirement is 60% for General / EWS / OBC candidates and 55% for SC / ST / PwD. These are basic eligibility bars, not selection criteria.

That window closed before the final key was published on 21 May 2026. Once the final result is declared, the scores are final.

IPM Seats at IIM Indore and Distribution

IIM Indore has 150 domestic seats for the five-year IPM programme, plus 5 supernumerary seats for international students. The domestic seats are distributed as follows:

PwD is a horizontal reservation of approximately 5% across categories.

IPMAT is conducted by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak for their respective five-year IPM programmes. JIPMAT, or Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test, is a separate exam conducted by NTA.

JIPMAT is for admission to the IPM programmes at IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, and IIM Ranchi. The two exams are independent, and scores are not interchangeable between them.

What is IPMAT Admit Card 2026?

The IPMAT 2026 admit card is the official hall ticket issued by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak for their respective Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test. The Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) is conducted for admission to the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) — a programme that combines undergraduate and postgraduate management education into a single course, leading to an MBA degree from IIM Indore or IIM Rohtak. IPMAT scores are also accepted by IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Ranchi, and NIRMA University for their respective integrated programmes, though each of these institutes runs its own application and admit card process.

The admit card serves as the primary identification document at the IPMAT exam centre. It carries your registration details, exam centre allotment, and critical exam-day instructions. IIM Indore issues the IPMAT Indore admit card; IIM Rohtak issues the IPMAT Rohtak admit card. Both are released separately through their respective official websites.

Without a valid, printed admit card, you could not appear for the IPMAT 2026 examination — entry was denied at the exam centre in all cases, without exception. The admit card was the only proof accepted as confirmation of your registration and exam centre allotment.

Note: The IPMAT admit card is not an offer of admission or a confirmation of selection. Appearing in the IPMAT exam does not guarantee a seat in the IPM programme. Final admission depends on your Aptitude Test score, performance in the Written Ability Test (WAT), and the Personal Interview (PI) round conducted by IIM Indore.

IPMAT Admit Card Release — Past Year Trends

IIM Indore consistently releases the IPMAT admit card approximately 10 to 14 days before the exam. The exam itself is held in the first week of May every year. This pattern has held across multiple cycles, making it predictable for students planning for future IPMAT editions. Use the 2026 timeline as a benchmark — the 2027 admit card is likely to follow the same April-release window.

Year Admit Card Release (IIM Indore) Exam Date (IIM Indore) Gap (Admit Card to Exam)
IPMAT 2026 April 21, 2026 May 4, 2026 13 days
IPMAT 2025 April 2025 May 2025 ~10–14 days
IPMAT 2024 April 2024 May 2024 ~10–14 days

What to Do If There Is a Discrepancy in IPMAT Admit Card 2026

After downloading the IPMAT 2026 admit card, you were required to verify every detail immediately. A discrepancy in your name, category, photograph, or exam centre had to be reported to IIM Indore or IIM Rohtak before the exam date — corrections were not possible on exam day or after the examination concluded. Follow the steps below if you encounter such an issue in future IPMAT cycles.

  1. Download your IPMAT admit card and carefully check all details — name spelling, roll number, exam centre, exam date, shift timing, category, and photograph.
  2. If you find a discrepancy, take a screenshot and a printout of the incorrect admit card as documentation.
  3. Contact the IIM Indore admissions office (for IPMAT Indore) or IIM Rohtak admissions office (for IPMAT Rohtak) immediately using the contact details available on the respective official websites.
  4. Send a written email with your application number, a clear description of the error, and supporting documents — for example, a Class 10 certificate or government ID showing the correct name or category.
  5. Follow up regularly via email or phone until you receive a written confirmation of the correction or a revised admit card.
  6. Keep a copy of all correspondence, including the original incorrect admit card and any revised version issued, for your records through the entire selection process.

Note: The exam centre allotted on the IPMAT 2026 admit card could not be changed under any circumstances — IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak did not entertain requests for centre change after admit cards were issued. Plan your travel and accommodation at your allotted centre in advance.

Answer key

IIM Indore has released the final IPMAT answer key 2026 on the official candidate login portal at iimidr.ac.in. The provisional answer key was first released on May 11, 2026, followed by the two-day objection window (May 11–12, 2026). Since no valid objections were upheld after review, the final answer key — released in the third week of May 2026 — is identical to the provisional version. Students can use the final answer key to verify their section-wise performance and understand how their IPMAT 2026 score was computed before the final merit list is announced.

Details Mentioned on IPMAT Answer Key 2026

Note: The provisional answer key details were subject to change during the objection window; the final answer key released in the third week of May 2026 is the definitive document used for score computation and result declaration.

How to Challenge the IPMAT Answer Key 2026?

The IPMAT 2026 answer key objection window has closed. The window was open from May 11, 2026 to May 12, 2026 (till 5:00 PM). IIM Indore reviewed all submitted challenges and confirmed that no changes were made to any answer. The complete challenge process is explained below for reference and for students preparing for future IPMAT cycles.

Students who disagreed with a correct answer in the provisional key could raise an objection through the official login portal. Only registered students who had appeared for the exam were eligible to challenge. Each objection had to be backed by a verifiable academic source or evidence supporting the alternative answer.

Here are the steps to challenge the IPMAT Answer Key:

  • Step 1: Log in to the official IPMAT candidate portal at ipmat.iimidr.ac.in using your registered credentials.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the "Challenge Answer Key" or "Raise Objection" section on your candidate dashboard.
  • Step 3: Select the section (QA MCQ, QA SA, or VA MCQ) in which you wish to raise an objection.
  • Step 4: Enter the Question ID of the question you want to challenge and specify the answer you believe is correct.
  • Step 5: Upload supporting evidence — such as textbook references, official academic sources, or documented precedents — to substantiate your challenge.
  • Step 6: Pay the non-refundable challenge fee of Rs. 100 per question using available online payment modes.
  • Step 7: Submit the challenge and save the confirmation receipt for your records. IIM Indore’s decision after expert review is final and binding.

Note: The challenge fee of Rs. 100 per question is non-refundable whether or not the objection is accepted. For IPMAT 2026, no objections were upheld and the final answer key is identical to the provisional version.

Ques. What is the fee to challenge the IPMAT answer key?

Ans. The fee to challenge the IPMAT answer key is Rs. 100 per question (non-refundable). This fee applies regardless of whether your objection is accepted or rejected by IIM Indore. Payment is made online through the official candidate portal during the objection window. This differs from NTA-conducted exams such as JEE or NEET, where the challenge fee is Rs. 200 per question.

Ques. Is the IPMAT 2026 challenge window still open?

Ans. No. The IPMAT 2026 answer key objection window closed on May 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM. After reviewing all submitted challenges, IIM Indore confirmed no changes to any answer. The final answer key is now available on the official candidate portal and no further objections can be raised for IPMAT 2026.

IPMAT Answer Key 2026 Vs Response Sheet

Two distinct documents are central to evaluating your IPMAT 2026 performance — the Response Sheet (what you answered) and the Answer Key (what is correct). Understanding the difference is essential for accurately computing your score and for making a valid objection case during the challenge window.

What is the IPMAT Response Sheet?

The IPMAT response sheet is the official record of every answer you submitted during the exam on May 4, 2026. It captures your chosen responses across all three sections — QA MCQ, QA Short Answer, and VA MCQ — identified by Question ID. IIM Indore makes the response sheet available on the candidate portal so students can verify what was actually logged by the testing system during their session. If your response sheet reflects an answer different from what you intended, that is a testing-system discrepancy — which is separate from an answer key objection.

What is the IPMAT Answer Key?

The IPMAT answer key is the official list of correct answers prepared by IIM Indore’s academic team after the exam. The provisional version was released May 11, 2026 and was open for challenge for two days. After expert review of all objections, the final answer key was published in the third week of May 2026 with no modifications. This final version is the sole basis on which raw scores were computed and the IPMAT 2026 result was declared on May 25, 2026.

IPMAT Answer Key 2026 vs Response Sheet – Key Differences

  • Purpose: The response sheet records what you answered; the answer key records what is correct. Only by comparing both can you determine whether a given response earned marks, lost marks, or scored zero.
  • Source: The response sheet is auto-generated from the testing system during your exam session; the answer key is prepared by IIM Indore’s subject-matter experts post-exam.
  • Objection basis: To challenge an answer key entry, you must reference the specific Question ID on your response sheet — both documents together form a valid objection.
  • Score impact: The response sheet alone does not determine your score. It is only when each of your responses is matched against the final answer key that your raw score is calculated.
  • Availability: Both documents are accessible via the IPMAT candidate login portal at ipmat.iimidr.ac.in.
  • Finality: Your response sheet is fixed — it cannot be changed after the exam closes. The answer key transitions from provisional to final after the objection window; the final answer key is the authoritative version for score computation.

How to Calculate Your Score Using the IPMAT Answer Key 2026

To compute your raw score, you need both your IPMAT 2026 response sheet and the final answer key — both accessible via the candidate portal. The scoring formula differs between the MCQ sections and the Short Answer section, so calculate section-wise and sum the totals.

  • Download your response sheet and final answer key from the IPMAT 2026 candidate portal at ipmat.iimidr.ac.in.
  • For Section 1 (QA MCQ, 30 questions) and Section 3 (VA MCQ, 45 questions): add +4 marks for each correct answer and subtract 1 mark for each incorrect answer. Unattempted questions score zero.
  • For Section 2 (QA Short Answer, 15 questions): add +4 marks for each correct answer. There is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted answers in this section — making it strategically important to attempt all 15 questions.
  • Add the scores from all three sections to get your total raw score out of 360.
  • Use the formula: Total Score = (Correct MCQ Answers × 4) − (Incorrect MCQ Answers × 1) + (Correct SA Answers × 4)
  • Keep sectional cutoffs in mind — you must clear the minimum threshold in each section to qualify for PI shortlisting, regardless of total score.

Note: Only the official IPMAT Result 2026 (declared May 25, 2026) contains the verified final score. Self-calculated scores are estimates and may vary marginally from official scores.

Example of IPMAT Score Calculation:

Parameter Section 1: QA MCQ Section 2: QA SA Section 3: VA MCQ
Total Questions in Section 30 15 45
Number of Correct Answers 20 10 35
Number of Incorrect Answers 6 3 (no penalty applies) 8
Unattempted Questions 4 2 2
Score from Correct Answers 20 × 4 = 80 10 × 4 = 40 35 × 4 = 140

The answer key is personalised to your login — there is no public PDF. Use the "Forgot Password" option if you cannot access your account.

Ques. What is the total marks and marking scheme for IPMAT 2026?

Ans. The IPMAT 2026 exam is for a total of 360 marks across 90 questions in three sections. The marking scheme is: +4 marks for correct answers in all sections; −1 mark for incorrect answers in Section 1 (QA MCQ) and Section 3 (VA MCQ); no negative marking in Section 2 (QA Short Answer). Each section has a 40-minute time limit and the total exam duration is 120 minutes.

Ques. When was the IPMAT 2026 final answer key released?

Ans. The IPMAT 2026 final answer key was released in the third week of May 2026. The provisional answer key was first released on May 11, 2026, and the objection window closed on May 12, 2026. After reviewing all challenges, IIM Indore confirmed no changes — so the final key is identical to the provisional version released on May 11, 2026.

Ques. Can I still challenge the IPMAT 2026 answer key?

Ans. No. The IPMAT 2026 answer key challenge window closed on May 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM. No further objections can be raised. The final answer key is available on the official candidate portal and IIM Indore’s decision following the objection review is final and cannot be appealed.

Ques. What score is considered good in IPMAT 2026?

Ans. A total score of 240 or above out of 360 is generally considered competitive for IPMAT 2026. Students scoring 250+ typically fall within the top 300 overall ranks and have a strong chance of clearing the PI shortlist for IIM Indore’s 5-year IPM programme. However, sectional cutoffs in all three sections must also be individually cleared — a high total score does not compensate for failing a sectional threshold.

Ques. How is the IPMAT 2026 score calculated from the answer key?

Ans. Your IPMAT 2026 raw score is calculated as: Total Score = (Correct MCQ Answers × 4) − (Incorrect MCQ Answers × 1) + (Correct SA Answers × 4). Log in to the candidate portal, compare your response sheet against the final answer key section by section, count correct and incorrect responses, and apply the formula separately for MCQ and SA sections before summing. The official result portal shows your verified final score.

Ques. Does IPMAT 2026 have sectional cutoffs?

Ans. Yes. IPMAT 2026 has sectional cutoffs that must be met in each of the three sections independently. A student who scores a high total but falls below the cutoff in even one section is not eligible for the PI shortlist. The exact sectional cutoff thresholds for 2026 are announced by IIM Indore along with the result and vary by category (General, SC, ST, OBC, PwD) and section difficulty in a given year.

Counselling

IPMAT 2026 Counselling is the final admission stage for the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) conducted by IIM Indore. As of July 29, 2026, the IPMAT 2026 result has been declared and Personal Interview (PI) rounds have concluded; the final merit list is expected in the first week of August 2026.

  • IIM Indore declared the IPMAT 2026 result on May 25, 2026; WAT and PI rounds were held in July 2026.
  • The final merit list combines 65% IPMAT Aptitude Test Score and 35% Personal Interview (PI) score.
  • IIM Indore offers 150 seats in the IPM 2026 batch; additional seats are available at IIM Amritsar, Ranchi, Shillong, and Sirmaur through separate applications.
  • Minimum 60% marks in Class 10 and 12 are required for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS students (55% for SC, ST, and PwD students).
  • Reservation norms follow Government of India policy: OBC-NCL 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, EWS 10%, and PwD 5% horizontal.

What is IPMAT Counselling 2026?

IPMAT 2026 Counselling is the institute-led admission process that converts your aptitude test performance into a confirmed seat in the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore and other participating IIMs. Unlike centralized counselling systems such as JoSAA, IPMAT does not use a single national portal. IIM Indore independently manages the full admission cycle for its IPM programme, while other IIMs accepting IPMAT scores run their own separate admission processes.

The process begins with the IPMAT aptitude test (held in May) and moves through Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interviews before culminating in a merit-based final list. Completing every stage of the process is mandatory — your IPMAT score alone does not guarantee a seat at IIM Indore. Students who clear the sectional cutoffs are shortlisted for PI; those who do not complete the PI stage are not considered for admission, regardless of their raw score.

IIM Rohtak conducts its own separate IPMAT exam and admission process and is not part of IIM Indore’s cycle. IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya admit students through JIPMAT, conducted separately by NTA. This article focuses on the admission process for IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore, the primary and most widely recognised version of the test.

IPMAT Counselling Eligibility Criteria 2026

Students must satisfy all eligibility criteria before being considered for an IPMAT 2026 admission offer. Meeting the exam sectional cutoffs for PI shortlisting does not waive the academic requirements below; these are verified at the document verification stage.

  • Class 10 Marks: Minimum 60% aggregate for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS students; minimum 55% aggregate for SC, ST, and PwD students. All subjects are included in the aggregate calculation as per the board’s convention.
  • Class 12 Marks: Minimum 60% aggregate for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS students; minimum 55% aggregate for SC, ST, and PwD students. The aggregate is computed across all subjects shown in the mark sheet.
  • Mathematics as Compulsory Subject: Mathematics or Applied Mathematics must have been a compulsory subject in Class XI and XII. Students without Mathematics in Class 12 are not eligible, regardless of their aggregate percentage or IPMAT score.
  • Age Limit: Not more than 20 years of age as of July 31, 2026, for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS students. SC, ST, and PwD students are eligible up to 25 years of age as of July 31, 2026 (5-year relaxation applies).
  • Appearing Students: Students in Class 12 at the time of the IPMAT exam were eligible to apply; however, they must produce the final mark sheet meeting the required aggregate at the time of document verification. If the final mark sheet does not meet the minimum percentage, the admission offer is cancelled.
  • Nationality: Indian nationals may apply for the 150 domestic seats. Foreign nationals are considered for 5 supernumerary seats through a separate application process.

Students who qualify the PI stage but do not meet the academic eligibility criteria will not receive an admission offer, regardless of their composite score. Produce original mark sheets and certificates at the time of document verification — discrepancies discovered after joining the programme may lead to cancellation of admission.

Reservation of Quotas for IPMAT Counselling 2026

Reservation at IIM Indore for the IPM 2026 batch follows the Government of India’s reservation policy, applied uniformly to all centrally funded institutions. The table below shows the category-wise seat distribution for the 150 domestic seats in the IPM 2026 batch. Category certificates must be valid and in the prescribed central government format; OBC-NCL certificates must not be more than one year old at the time of document verification.

Category Reservation (%) Approximate Seats (out of 150) Key Certificate Requirement
General (Open) 61 No category certificate required
OBC – Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) 27% 40 OBC-NCL certificate (central government format, not older than 1 year)
Scheduled Caste (SC) 15% 23 SC certificate issued by competent authority
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 7.5% 11 ST certificate issued by competent authority
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 10% 15 EWS income and asset certificate for FY 2025–26
Persons with Disability (PwD) 5% horizontal Up to 8 (spread across all categories above) PwD certificate from government hospital or medical board
Supernumerary (Foreign Nationals) Supernumerary 5 Separate application process; valid passport and supporting documents

PwD reservation is horizontal: a PwD student is first ranked within their own category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or EWS) based on composite merit score, and then counted against the 5% PwD sub-quota within that category. If your category certificate is expired, in the wrong format, or issued by an incompetent authority, you will be treated as a General category student for seat allotment purposes.

Students applying to IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, or IIM Sirmaur with their IPMAT score must note that each institute maintains its own category-wise seat breakdown — the figures above apply only to IIM Indore’s 150-seat IPM batch.

How to Apply for IPMAT Counselling 2026?

IPMAT 2026 counselling does not use a separate counselling portal. The entire admission process — from exam registration to final seat confirmation — is managed through IIM Indore’s official admission portal at iimidr.ac.in. Students who cleared the IPMAT 2026 sectional cutoffs were automatically shortlisted for the PI stage; no separate registration for PI was required.

Students targeting IPM programmes at IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, or IIM Sirmaur must submit separate applications on each institute’s official website — there is no shared application portal. Each institute sets its own application deadline, and missing it forfeits consideration for that institute’s batch.

Step 1: Online Registration and Application

Registration for IPMAT 2026 opened in January 2026 on the IIM Indore website. At the registration stage, students filled in personal and academic details, uploaded a recent photograph and signature, and paid the non-refundable application fee (Rs. 4,130 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS; Rs. 2,065 for SC/ST/PwD). Students who completed this step are now in the active admission pipeline and do not need to re-register for the remaining stages.

Step 2: WAT and Personal Interview (PI)

IIM Indore shortlisted students who cleared all IPMAT 2026 sectional cutoffs and invited them to the IIM Indore campus in Indore for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI), held during July 2026. Both the WAT and PI were conducted on the same day at the campus. The PI panel assessed general awareness, communication skills, motivation for integrated management education, and analytical ability. Travel and accommodation costs for the PI visit were borne by the student.

Step 3: Composite Score Calculation

After the PI stage, IIM Indore computes a final composite score for every student who appeared for the interview:

  • Aptitude Test Score (ATS) — 65% weightage: Derived from the student’s normalised IPMAT 2026 score, calculated as (marks obtained / maximum possible marks) × 100, then normalised across exam sessions.
  • Personal Interview (PI) Score — 35% weightage: Awarded by the interview panel based on the student’s performance on the day of PI at IIM Indore campus.
  • Students are ranked in descending order of composite scores, separately within each category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, PwD).

There is no separate WAT score component in the IIM Indore composite formula — the WAT is used qualitatively by the PI panel and does not carry an independent numerical weight in the final merit list.

Step 4: Seat Offer and Acceptance

Once the final merit list is released (expected first week of August 2026), IIM Indore sends admission offer letters to students in order of their category-wise composite scores. Students must log in to the admission portal and accept the offer and pay the seat acceptance fee within the deadline specified in the offer letter. The deadline is typically short — often 48 to 72 hours — so check your registered email regularly after the merit list is released. Failure to respond within the deadline results in the seat being offered to the next student on the list.

Step 5: Document Verification and Reporting

After seat acceptance and fee payment, students complete online document verification by uploading scanned copies of required documents. Physical reporting to the IIM Indore campus follows, where original documents are verified in person before the programme begins. If any document is found to be forged, does not meet eligibility requirements, or is missing, the admission offer is cancelled and the seat is offered to the next eligible student on the merit list. Reporting is also the stage where students pay the first instalment of the programme fee and complete hostel and administrative formalities.

How to Accept Your IPMAT Seat Offer (Step-by-Step Guide)

When IIM Indore sends you an admission offer for the IPM 2026 programme, follow the steps below to confirm your seat. Missing the acceptance deadline permanently forfeits your seat in the 2026 batch — there is no grace period or appeal process for late acceptances.

Step 1: Check Your Email and Admission Portal

  • IIM Indore sends the offer letter to your registered email ID immediately after the merit list is finalised.
  • Log in to the admission portal at iimidr.ac.in using your original application credentials.
  • The portal dashboard will display your offer status and the acceptance deadline prominently.

Step 2: Review Your Offer Details

  • Confirm the programme name, category under which the seat is offered, and the exact acceptance deadline.
  • Read all terms and conditions, including the seat acceptance fee amount, refund policy, and document submission instructions.

Step 3: Accept the Offer Online

  • Click "Accept Offer" on the admission portal dashboard.
  • A confirmation screen will appear — verify all details before clicking Confirm, as this action cannot be reversed without initiating the formal withdrawal process.

Step 4: Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee

  • Pay the seat acceptance fee online via net banking, debit card, or credit card through the portal’s payment gateway.
  • Download and save the payment confirmation receipt immediately; email it to yourself as a backup.
  • The seat acceptance fee is typically adjusted against the first-year programme fee — it is not an additional charge on top of tuition.

Step 5: Upload Pending Documents

  • Upload any documents flagged as pending in the portal — for example, a final Class 12 mark sheet if board results were not available at the time of application.
  • Keep all original documents organised and ready for physical verification at the time of campus reporting.

Once the seat is accepted and the fee is paid, your seat in the IPM 2026 batch is confirmed. Do not withdraw without first understanding the refund policy — the seat acceptance fee is typically forfeited upon withdrawal after acceptance.

Action Timeline Remarks
Review offer letter Within 24 hours of receipt Check programme, category, and all terms carefully
Accept seat online Within deadline in offer letter (typically 48–72 hours) Non-acceptance by deadline forfeits seat permanently
Pay seat acceptance fee Simultaneously with acceptance Online payment only; save receipt as PDF
Upload pending documents As per portal instructions Final Class 12 mark sheet if not uploaded earlier
Report to campus As per IIM Indore’s reporting schedule (late August 2026) Bring all originals for in-person physical verification

IPMAT Counselling Documents Required 2026

Prepare the following documents for both the online upload stage and for physical verification at the time of reporting to the IIM Indore campus. All original documents must be produced for in-person verification — photocopies and scanned uploads alone will not be accepted at the campus reporting stage.

  • IPMAT 2026 Admit Card (downloaded from the IIM Indore portal)
  • IPMAT 2026 Scorecard / Result Sheet (downloaded from iimidr.ac.in after May 25, 2026)
  • Class 10 Mark Sheet — original, showing individual subject marks and aggregate percentage
  • Class 10 Board Passing Certificate or Migration Certificate (original)
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet — original; if final results were not yet released at the application stage, the provisional mark sheet is accepted initially, but the original must be submitted within the deadline notified by IIM Indore

  • OBC-NCL Certificate (if applicable) — in the central government format prescribed by DoPT; must not be more than one year old at the time of verification
  • SC / ST Certificate (if applicable) — issued by the competent authority (District Magistrate / SDM / Tehsildar) of the student’s home district
  • EWS Income and Asset Certificate (if applicable) — issued for financial year 2025–26; certificates from earlier financial years are not valid
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable) — issued by a government hospital’s medical board or District Medical Board; must clearly state the nature and percentage of disability
  • Photo identity proof — Aadhaar card, passport, PAN card, or voter ID (any one, original)
  • Recent passport-size photographs — minimum six copies, taken against a plain white background within the last three months
  • Domicile certificate (required for state-quota seats at IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, or IIM Sirmaur, as applicable to each institute’s norms)
  • Gap year explanation letter (if applicable) — for students with an academic gap between passing Class 12 and appearing for IPMAT 2026

Students applying to IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, or IIM Sirmaur through their IPMAT score must additionally check those institutes’ document checklists individually — requirements may differ from IIM Indore’s list above.

IPMAT 2026 admission-related expenses fall into two broad categories: fees paid to complete the admission process (non-refundable or partially refundable) and programme fees payable after joining. The total five-year programme cost at IIM Indore is significant — plan your finances and, if required, begin the educational loan process early, since loan disbursements at most banks take four to six weeks from application.

Non-Refundable Fees

These fees are not returned under any circumstances, including withdrawal after seat acceptance.

Fee Type General / OBC-NCL / EWS SC / ST / PwD
IPMAT 2026 Application / Registration Fee (already paid at registration stage) Rs. 4,130 (inclusive of applicable taxes) Rs. 2,065 (50% concession)
PI / WAT Centre Travel and Accommodation (July 2026) Self-funded; costs vary by city of origin Self-funded; costs vary by city of origin
Seat Acceptance Processing Fee (payable at offer stage) To be announced by IIM Indore in the offer letter To be announced by IIM Indore in the offer letter

Refundable / Adjustable Fees

The seat acceptance fee collected at the time of offer is typically adjusted against the first-year programme fee — it is not an extra cost on top of tuition. The table below reflects approximate annual programme fees for IIM Indore’s IPM programme based on historical data from recent batches. Confirm exact fee figures on the IIM Indore website before making payment, as fees are revised annually and the official 2026 batch fee schedule will be published alongside the offer letter.

Fee Component Approximate Amount Remarks
Tuition Fee (per year) Rs. 8–10 lakhs (Years 1–3, UG phase) Subject to annual revision; official 2026 batch figures will be published on iimidr.ac.in
Rs. 10–12 lakhs (Years 4–5, PG phase)
Hostel and Mess (per year) Rs. 1.5–2.5 lakhs Varies by room type (single / shared) and mess plan selected
Other Charges — books, uniforms, student activities (per year) Rs. 50,000–1 lakh Estimate based on historical data; actual costs may vary
Security Deposit (one-time, refundable) Rs. 10,000–25,000 Refunded on programme completion subject to no outstanding dues

Note: If you withdraw after accepting a seat, the seat acceptance fee is not refunded. Refunds on tuition or other advance payments depend on the stage at which you withdraw — IIM Indore publishes a refund schedule in the offer letter. Review this schedule before accepting, particularly if you are simultaneously evaluating offers from other IIMs.

IIM-Wise IPM Seat Allotment 2026

The IPMAT score (IIM Indore) is accepted by IIM Indore and several other IIMs for their five-year IPM programmes. Each institution runs a completely independent admission process. Applying to one institute does not enrol you in another — you must submit a separate application form and pay the relevant application fee for each institute you want to be considered at.

Institution Exam Required Approx. Seats Separate Application Needed Selection Process
IIM Indore IPMAT (IIM Indore) 150 + 5 supernumerary No — same registration portal IPMAT score (65%) + PI (35%)
IIM Amritsar IPMAT (IIM Indore) ~60 Yes — iimamritsar.ac.in IPMAT score + PI / WAT
IIM Ranchi IPMAT (IIM Indore) ~60 Yes — iimranchi.ac.in IPMAT score + academic profile + PI
IIM Shillong IPMAT (IIM Indore) ~60 Yes — iimshillong.ac.in IPMAT score + PI
IIM Sirmaur IPMAT (IIM Indore) ~60 Yes — iimsirmaur.ac.in IPMAT score + PI
IIM Rohtak IPMAT Rohtak — separate exam conducted by IIM Rohtak ~120 Yes — iimrohtak.ac.in (separate IPMAT Rohtak exam required) Separate IPMAT Rohtak score + PI
IIM Jammu JIPMAT (conducted by NTA) — not IPMAT Indore ~60 Yes — iimj.ac.in JIPMAT score + PI
IIM Bodh Gaya JIPMAT (conducted by NTA) — not IPMAT Indore ~60 Yes — iimbg.ac.in JIPMAT score + PI

Seat numbers above are approximate and based on historical intake data. Official confirmed seat intake figures for the 2026 batch will be published by each institution individually. IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya require the JIPMAT score specifically — your IPMAT (IIM Indore) score cannot be used for admission to these two institutes.

Non-IIM institutions — including IIFT Kakinada, NALSAR University of Law (Hyderabad), TAPMI Manipal, Nirma University (Ahmedabad), Krea University / IFMR (Sri City), and Alliance University (Bengaluru) — also accept IPMAT (IIM Indore) scores. Application processes, seat counts, and eligibility requirements differ at each; refer directly to their official admissions pages for details.

Waitlist and Withdrawal: What Are Your Options?

IPMAT admission at IIM Indore does not use a multi-round upgrade / freeze / float system like JoSAA. There is one merit list, and students are offered seats in rank order within each category. Waitlist movement occurs when students in the main list decline their offers or miss the acceptance deadline. Understanding these dynamics helps you make informed decisions, especially if you receive offers from multiple institutions simultaneously.

If You Receive a Direct Admission Offer (Main Merit List):

  • Accept the offer within the stated deadline — typically within 48 to 72 hours of receiving the offer letter — and pay the seat acceptance fee.
  • Once you accept, your seat at IIM Indore is confirmed. You may still apply to other IIMs accepting IPMAT scores through their separate portals, but you must ultimately enrol at only one institute.
  • Accepting an offer and then withdrawing leads to forfeiture of the seat acceptance fee — notify IIM Indore promptly if you choose to decline, so the seat can move to the next waitlisted student.

If You Are on the Waitlist:

  • Students ranked below the initial offer cutoff are placed on a waitlist; movement is triggered each time a main-list student declines their offer or misses the acceptance deadline.
  • IIM Indore communicates waitlist offers individually by email — there is no public dashboard showing your waitlist rank or movement status.
  • Apply to IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, and IIM Sirmaur in parallel while waiting — their separate admission timelines may allow you to secure a seat there before IIM Indore’s waitlist resolves. The difference between these IIMs lies not just in geography but in programme culture, faculty strength, and infrastructure — research each before applying.

If You Decide to Withdraw After Accepting:

  • Notify IIM Indore through the official admission portal and by email to the admissions office — prompt notification releases your seat for the next waitlisted student.
  • The seat acceptance fee is generally forfeited after acceptance. Tuition fee refunds (if advance tuition has been paid) follow IIM Indore’s published refund schedule.
  • Withdrawing from IIM Indore does not affect your standing or offer at any other IIM — each admission is fully independent.
Scenario Recommended Action Financial Impact
Received offer; want to join IIM Indore Accept offer + pay seat acceptance fee before deadline Seat acceptance fee adjusted against first-year tuition
Received offer; prefer another IIM Decline offer on portal before the deadline Application fee not refunded; seat acceptance fee not charged if you decline before paying
On waitlist; no offer yet Wait for email notification; apply to other IIMs in parallel No financial commitment until you receive and accept an offer
Accepted offer; want to switch to another institute Withdraw via portal; notify admissions office in writing promptly Seat acceptance fee typically forfeited; tuition refund as per IIM Indore’s refund schedule

If you withdraw after accepting a seat and paying the seat acceptance fee, that fee is not refunded. Make your decision before the acceptance deadline wherever possible — declining before paying avoids any financial loss and opens your seat for a waitlisted peer.

FAQs

Ques: What is IPMAT 2026 Counselling and who conducts it?

Ans: IPMAT 2026 Counselling is the admission process for the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore and other participating IIMs. IIM Indore independently manages every stage for its own programme — from shortlisting students for PI, to releasing the final merit list, sending offer letters, collecting the seat acceptance fee, and verifying documents. It is not a centralized national process. IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, and IIM Sirmaur conduct their own parallel admission processes using the IPMAT (IIM Indore) score, and each must be applied to separately on its own website.

Ques: When will the IPMAT 2026 final merit list be released?

Ans: The IPMAT 2026 final merit list is expected in the first week of August 2026 on iimidr.ac.in. PI rounds concluded in July 2026, and IIM Indore typically takes one to two weeks after completing all PI sessions to compute composite scores, verify category details, and publish the ranked list. Students should monitor their registered email address daily during this period — offer letters are sent with short acceptance deadlines of 48 to 72 hours, and missing them forfeits the seat.

Ques: What is the weightage given to the IPMAT score and PI in the final merit list?

Ans: IIM Indore uses the following formula for its IPM 2026 merit list:

  • Aptitude Test Score (ATS) — 65% weightage: Derived from the student’s normalised IPMAT 2026 score, calculated as (marks obtained / maximum possible marks) × 100, normalised across exam sessions.
  • Personal Interview (PI) Score — 35% weightage: Awarded by the interview panel based on the student’s performance at the IIM Indore campus in July 2026.

The Written Ability Test (WAT) is used qualitatively by the PI panel — it does not carry a separate numerical weight in the composite formula. Where two students have an identical composite score, ATS is used as the tiebreaker; if ATS is also identical, Class 12 aggregate percentage is used.

Ques: Which IIMs and institutions can I apply to with my IPMAT (IIM Indore) score?

Ans: Your IPMAT (IIM Indore) score is accepted by IIM Indore (automatically, as part of the same exam-registration process) and by IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, and IIM Sirmaur through separate applications on each institute’s website. Non-IIM institutions — including IIFT Kakinada, TAPMI Manipal, NALSAR Hyderabad, Nirma University, Krea University (IFMR), and Alliance University — also consider IPMAT (IIM Indore) scores; check their official websites for application deadlines and eligibility. IIM Rohtak uses its own separate IPMAT Rohtak exam; IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya use JIPMAT conducted by NTA — neither accepts IPMAT (IIM Indore) scores.

Ques: Is there a centralised counselling portal for IPMAT admissions?

Ans: No. IPMAT does not have a centralised counselling portal comparable to JoSAA (for JEE Advanced/Main) or MCC (for NEET-UG). Each IIM handles its own admission independently. For IIM Indore, all steps — PI shortlisting, merit list, offer acceptance, fee payment, and document verification — are managed through iimidr.ac.in. For other IIMs accepting IPMAT scores, you must visit each institute’s official website, submit a separate application form, and pay the respective application fee.

Ques: What happens if I am placed on the IPMAT 2026 waitlist?

Ans: Waitlisted students receive individual email notifications from IIM Indore as seats are released by main-list students who decline their offers or miss acceptance deadlines. IIM Indore does not publicly disclose waitlist ranks, so you cannot predict when — or whether — a waitlist offer will arrive. While waiting, apply to other IIMs that accept IPMAT scores through their separate portals, since those admission timelines differ and may still have open windows.

Note: No financial commitment is required while on the waitlist. Do not pay any fee to any third party claiming to secure a seat — IIM Indore’s official portal is the only legitimate fee collection channel.

Ques: What is the minimum academic percentage required for IPMAT 2026 admission?

Ans: Students must have a minimum aggregate of 60% in both Class 10 and Class 12 for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories. SC, ST, and PwD students need a minimum of 55% in both. Mathematics (or Applied Mathematics) must have been a compulsory subject in Class XI and XII — no waiver is possible. Meeting the IPMAT sectional cutoffs for PI shortlisting does not waive the academic eligibility criteria; failure to meet them at document verification leads to cancellation of the admission offer, even after seat acceptance and fee payment.

Ques: What documents do I need for IPMAT 2026 admission?

Ans: Prepare the following documents for online upload and for physical verification at the IIM Indore campus:

  • IPMAT 2026 Admit Card and Scorecard (downloaded from iimidr.ac.in)
  • Class 10 mark sheet and board certificate (original)
  • Class 12 mark sheet — original or provisional — and board certificate
  • Category certificate — OBC-NCL (not older than 1 year, central govt format), SC, ST, EWS (FY 2025–26), or PwD — if applicable
  • Photo identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, or voter ID — any one, original)
  • Six recent passport-size photographs (white background, taken within last 3 months)
  • Domicile certificate, if claiming a state-quota seat at any other participating IIM

Ques: Is the seat acceptance fee refundable if I withdraw after accepting?

Ans: The seat acceptance fee is typically not refunded once you have accepted the offer and the payment has been processed. The tuition fee refund — applicable if you have paid any advance tuition — follows a separate refund schedule that IIM Indore publishes in the offer letter; earlier withdrawal generally means a larger portion is returned. Read the refund schedule in full before deciding to accept, particularly if you are simultaneously evaluating offers from other IIMs or programmes and want to keep your options open.

Ques: Can I simultaneously apply to IIM Indore and other IIMs using the same IPMAT score?

Ans: Yes. You can apply to IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, IIM Sirmaur, and eligible non-IIM institutions simultaneously using your IPMAT (IIM Indore) score. Since each institute has its own application portal, application fee, and admission timeline, there is no conflict in applying to all of them at the same time. However, once you receive and accept an admission offer from any one institution, you must decline the others. Holding confirmed seats at multiple institutions simultaneously is not permitted and may result in cancellation of all offers if discovered.

Ques: What is the age limit for IPMAT 2026 and how is it verified?

Ans: Students must be not more than 20 years of age as of July 31, 2026 for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories. SC, ST, and PwD students are eligible up to 25 years of age as of July 31, 2026. Age is verified from the date of birth recorded on the Class 10 board certificate — not from the Aadhaar card or any other self-reported document. Students who were born on July 31, 2006 or later are within the 20-year limit for General category; for SC/ST/PwD, students born on July 31, 2001 or later are within the 25-year limit.

IPMAT 5 Years Question Paper Analysis

Over the past 5 years, from 2025 – 2020, the IPMAT question paper exam pattern has shown a clear shift toward concept-based, data-driven, and problem-solving in both sections QA and VA.

In Quantitative Ability

  • Algebra dominates (66 questions), followed by Data Interpretation (2–10 questions yearly) with a growing focus on logic-based sets.
  • Core topics like Number Systems, Progressions, and Set Theory remain consistently important, while Logarithms and Probability are gaining weightage.
  • Geometry basics appear every year, but Trigonometry is declining in importance.

In Verbal Ability

  • The biggest change is the rise of Reading Comprehension (16 to 27 questions), making it the most important area.
  • At the same time, grammar has almost disappeared, while vocabulary topics like fillers, idioms, and confusing words remain relevant but slightly less prominent.
