JNUEE Registration Trends — Last 5 Years

JNU moved its PG admissions from its own JNUEE entrance test to CUET (PG) from the 2022-23 cycle. Registration now flows through the all-India CUET (PG) pool.

JNUEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Check your eligibility before you apply. JNU rejects applications from students who do not meet the criteria, and the fee is not refunded.

The core requirements for JNUEE 2026 PG admission are:

  • You must have a recognised Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline.
  • You need the minimum marks set for the programme — generally 45% to 55% depending on the course (relaxation applies for reserved categories).
  • You must have qualified CUET (PG) 2026 in the subject mapped to your chosen programme.
  • Final-year students awaiting results can apply provisionally, subject to meeting the marks cut-off at admission.
  • A few science programmes (e.g., MSc Biotechnology) require the GAT-B score instead of CUET (PG).

Confirm the exact percentage and subject mapping for your programme in the official JNU e-Prospectus before applying.

How to Fill JNUEE Application Form 2026

You apply online in two phases — first register to create your account, then log in to fill and submit the form. Follow the steps below.

What is JNUEE 2026?

JNUEE 2026 is the entrance examination for admission to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The university uses CUET scores for admission instead of conducting its own separate test.

JNU accepts CUET-UG scores for undergraduate programmes and CUET-PG scores for postgraduate programmes. Candidates must apply to JNU separately after taking the relevant CUET exam.

Who Can Apply for JNUEE 2026

Eligibility depends on the programme you choose. Each programme at JNU has its own specific requirements.

  • For UG programmes: You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam from a recognised board. You also need to appear for CUET-UG in the subjects required by your chosen programme.
  • For PG programmes: You must hold a bachelor's degree in the relevant subject. You need to qualify CUET-PG in the subject linked to the programme you want.
  • Age limit: There is no upper age limit for most JNU programmes.
  • Reservation: Category-wise seats follow Government of India rules for General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

Exam Pattern for JNUEE 2026

JNU does not hold a separate exam. Your CUET score is the sole basis for admission.

CUET-UG and CUET-PG have different patterns. You must check the pattern for the specific CUET exam you are taking.

Exam Mode Question Type
CUET-UG Computer-based test Multiple-choice questions
CUET-PG Computer-based test Multiple-choice questions

JNU charges a separate application fee for admission to its programmes. The fee is paid online during the JNU application process.

Category Application Fee
General / OBC / EWS To be announced
SC / ST / PwD To be announced

The CUET exam fee is separate and is paid to the National Testing Agency (NTA). JNU application fee is paid directly to the university.

JNUEE 2026 Merit List

JNU releases merit lists based on CUET scores and deprivation points. The list is prepared separately for each programme and category.

Your merit list entry will show the following details:

  • Your name and CUET application number
  • The programme and school or centre you applied to
  • Your CUET-PG / CUET-UG score and normalised marks
  • Deprivation points added (if you are eligible)
  • Total merit score and your rank in that programme
  • Category and seat type (General / OBC / EWS / SC / ST / PwD)
  • Whether a seat is offered in the current round
  • The seat-acceptance fee and the payment deadline

If any detail is wrong, report it to the JNU admission helpdesk right away. Do not pay the acceptance fee until you have checked that the programme and category are correct.

JNUEE 2026 Qualifying Marks and Merit Calculation

JNU does not set a single fixed qualifying mark for admission. Your place on the merit list comes from your CUET score plus any deprivation points you earn. The cutoff changes for every programme and every category.

Here is how JNU builds your merit score:

  • CUET score: Your normalised CUET-PG (or CUET-UG) score is the main part of the merit.
  • Deprivation points: JNU adds extra points for backward regions, gender (girls get added points in many programmes), and other social or regional factors. This is JNU's way of widening access.
  • Final merit: CUET score plus deprivation points equals your total. JNU ranks all applicants in a programme on this total.

For UG language programmes, you must also meet the minimum CUET subject requirement JNU sets for that course. For PG, you need to have qualified CUET-PG in the subject linked to the programme you want.

JNUEE 2026 Cutoff by Programme

The JNU cutoff is the lowest merit score that gets you a seat in a programme for a given category. JNU does not publish a single cutoff before the result. The closing merit appears only after each round, once seats fill up.

Cutoffs for popular MA programmes like Economics, International Relations, Political Science, and English stay high every year because seats are few and demand is heavy. Science and language programmes usually close at lower merit scores.

Programme Type Expected Competition 2026 Cutoff Status
MA (Economics, International Relations, Political Science) Very high To be announced
MA (English, History, Sociology) High To be announced
MSc (Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry) and MCA Moderate to high To be announced
BA Hons. (Foreign Languages) Moderate To be announced

Category-wise cutoffs for General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD are always lower for reserved categories than for General. Watch the official programme-wise lists for the exact closing merit in your category.

What After the JNUEE 2026 Result: Seat Allotment and Counselling

Once the merit list is out, JNU runs an online seat-acceptance and counselling process. There is no separate offline counselling. Everything happens on the admission portal.

  1. Check the merit list: Log in and see if you have a seat in the current round.
  2. Accept and pay: If selected, accept the seat and pay the acceptance fee before the deadline. Missing it cancels your offer.
  3. Wait for later lists: If your name is not in the first list, wait for the second and later lists. JNU usually releases 3 to 4 lists as seats open up.
  4. Document verification: Selected students must show original academic and category documents. Admission is final only after this check.
  5. Report to the school: Complete the joining steps at your school or centre within the given dates.
