NEET MDS 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) 2024 eligibility criteria cover nationality, academic qualifications, and internship requirements. Candidates must meet all conditions set by the exam conducting authority.
Nationality
- Applicants must be an Indian citizen.
- An Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) is also eligible to apply.
Academic Qualifications
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) or a provisional passing certificate in BDS.
- The degree must be from an Indian dental university or college recognized by the Government of India under the Dentist Act 1948.
- An equivalent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI) is also accepted.
Internship and Experience
- Candidates must have completed a one-year rotary internship or practical training.
- The internship must be completed on or before March 31, 2024.
- Candidates in the process of completing the internship are also eligible, provided it is finished by the deadline.
- The internship must be done in a dental college approved or recognized by the Government of India.
Important Points to Remember
The one-year compulsory internship condition does not apply to applicants who passed their final year BDS examination on or before 1988. These applicants must hold a BDS degree from an Indian university recognized under the Dentist Act 1948 or an equivalent qualification recognized by DCI.
Such applicants also need to register provisionally or permanently with the State Dental Council (SDC) or DCI. No relief in the one-year internship criteria is granted unless the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Applicants must belong to the 2007-2008 academic session batch and have passed a 4½ year BDS degree with at least 6 months’ rotary internship certificate.
- Applicants must be pass outs of Rajah Muthiah Dental College, Annamalai University from the 2006-2007 academic session and have completed a 5-year BDS course without an internship.
Candidates Not Considered Eligible for NEET MDS 2024
Applicants who have not completed their one-year rotary internship on or before March 31, 2024, are not eligible to apply for NEET MDS 2024. This does not apply to those in the exceptional category mentioned above.
- Applicants who are neither provisionally nor permanently registered with SDC or DCI are not eligible to appear for the examination.
- If any information provided by an applicant is found to be incorrect or not genuine at any stage of the MDS admission process, the candidature will be cancelled immediately.
- Applicants who passed their BDS degree from Andhra Pradesh (AP), Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for admission under the All India Quota of 50%.
- However, those nominated by the Indian Government to study BDS from colleges in AP, Telangana, and J&K can apply for All India Quota seats.
These nominated candidates must sign an affidavit stating that they were nominated by the Government of India to pursue BDS from AP, Telangana, and J&K. The affidavit must be posted to the following address:

Applicants must also submit a printout of the NEET MDS 2024 Application Form along with the affidavit. This condition does not apply to applicants belonging to the Armed Forces who are seeking a 'Grant of Short Service Commission in Army Dental Corps' and wish to apply for MDS in Armed Forces Institutes.

Who Can Apply for NEET MDS?
Foreign nationals are eligible to fill the NEET MDS application form. The following categories can apply for NEET MDS:

Age Limit for NEET MDS 2024
There is no age limit mentioned by the authority. Candidates who meet the academic qualification criteria can apply for the exam.
Internship Completion Requirement
Candidates who cannot complete their internship by March 31, 2024 are not eligible for NEET MDS 2024. Applicants should have completed or been in the process of completing the one-year rotary internship or practical training on or before March 31, 2024.
Postgraduate Course Applicants
Applicants currently pursuing a postgraduate course may not be considered eligible for admission to MDS in any universities or colleges, depending on the respective rules and regulations. Some institutions under the Indian Government have set rules against admitting applicants who are already pursuing a postgraduate degree. Candidates must review the rules carefully before applying for NEET MDS.
