Jawaharlal Nehru University Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology Exam Pattern
JNU CEEB 2026 has two separate exams: GAT-B and BET. Both are Computer-Based Tests in English. Each exam is 3 hours (180 minutes) long. GAT-B is held in the morning shift and BET in the afternoon shift on the same day.
GAT-B Exam Pattern (for PG Admission)
- Section A: 60 compulsory questions at 10+2 level (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology). Each correct answer gives +1 mark, each wrong answer deducts 0.5 marks. Maximum marks: 60.
- Section B: 100 questions at bachelor's level (Biotechnology / Life Sciences). You attempt any 60 of 100. Each correct answer gives +3 marks, each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. Maximum marks: 180.
- Total: 160 questions, 120 to attempt, maximum 240 marks.
BET Exam Pattern (for DBT-JRF)
- Part A: General Aptitude & General Science. 100 questions, attempt 50. Each correct answer gives +3 marks, each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. Maximum marks: 150.
- Part B: Specialized Biotechnology. 100 questions, attempt 50. Each correct answer gives +3 marks, each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. Maximum marks: 150.
- Total: 200 questions, 100 to attempt, maximum 300 marks.
Unattempted questions carry no penalty. In both exams, wrong answers cost 1 full mark in the higher-mark sections, so attempt only questions you are confident about.
