Jawaharlal Nehru University Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology Syllabus
The JNU CEEB 2026 (GAT-B) syllabus has two sections. Section A covers 10+2 level science. Section B covers bachelor's level Biotechnology and Life Sciences.
- Section A – Basic Sciences (10+2 Level): This section covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the NCERT Class 11 and 12 standard.
- Physics: Includes mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, electricity and magnetism, electrostatics, and basics of modern physics like atomic models and nuclear physics.
- Chemistry: Covers physical chemistry (thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, reaction kinetics, electrochemistry), organic chemistry (reaction mechanisms, functional groups, spectroscopy), and inorganic chemistry.
- Section B – Biotechnology and Life Sciences (UG Level): This section covers bachelor's level material and has a greater influence on your final rank than Section A.
- Molecular Biology and Genetics: Focus heavily on these topics, as they typically carry the highest weightage in Section B.
- Cell Biology: This is a key topic to focus on first, along with molecular biology and genetics.
- Immunology: Includes innate and adaptive immunity, antibody structure and function, antigen-antibody interactions, vaccine principles, and the complement system.
- Recombinant DNA Technology: Covers restriction enzymes, cloning vectors (plasmids, bacteriophages, viral vectors), transformation techniques, gene library construction, and basics of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing.
- Bioinformatics: Includes sequence alignment tools (BLAST, ClustalW), biological databases (NCBI, PDB, UniProt), phylogenetic analysis, and protein structure prediction methods.
- Developmental Biology: Covers cell differentiation, stem cell biology, and basics of embryology.
- Ecology: Includes population dynamics, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity.
