Both VGSoM (IIT Kharagpur) and IIM Udaipur are highly reputable institutions with strong reputations in their respective fields. However, VGSOM is known for its strong focus on technology and engineering and lacks an environment conducive to Management studies. IIM Udaipur on the other hand is known for its business and management programs. The IIM tag is a strong advantage for IIM Udaipur, and an MBA in marketing from an IIM is highly valued in the job market.
Moreover, IIM Udaipur ranked 81 in the Financial Times Global rankings and should be preferred over IIT Kharagpur in my opinion. The branch value of the MBA program plays a major role in shaping your career so make sure you choose it after deep research and analysis. IIT Kharagpur is an excellent brand for B.Tech, but not so much for MBA. In fact, the whole ambiance is different.
Ultimately, the decision on which college to join will depend on your interests, goals, and career aspirations. It is important to do your own research and consult with professionals in both fields to make an informed decision.

- General questions: The interviewers may ask you general questions about your interests, hobbies, and current affairs. These questions are intended to assess your communication skills and your ability to think on your feet.
- Academic questions: The interviewers may also ask you questions related to your academic background, including your undergraduate studies and any relevant coursework or projects. They may also test your knowledge of basic business concepts.
- Case studies: VGSoM is known for its case-based approach to teaching management. Hence, the interviewers may ask you to analyze a case study and provide your insights on the same.
- Group discussion: In some cases, VGSoM may conduct group discussions as part of the interview process to assess your team-working skills and your ability to communicate and present your ideas effectively.
- Industry experience: If you have relevant work experience, the interviewers may ask you questions related to your industry experience, including your job responsibilities and achievements.
Overall, the VGSoM interview is designed to assess your communication skills, analytical thinking, and suitability for the management program. It is essential to be well-prepared and confident during the interview to make a good impression on the interviewers.
When it comes to choosing between IMT Ghaziabad and VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur for a management program, it is important to consider the specific strengths of each institution. IMT Ghaziabad is well-known for its marketing program and has a strong network of alumni in the corporate world. On the other hand, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur is known for its operations management program and has a strong reputation as an institution of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
It's important to note that while IITs may not have the same level of business school experience as some other institutions, they are renowned for their strength in certain areas of study, such as operations management. Additionally, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur holds a good return on investment factor.
Ultimately, the choice between IMT Ghaziabad and VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur will depend on an individual's interests and career goals. If one is interested in marketing or other majors, then IMT Ghaziabad would be a good choice, and if one is interested in operations management, then VGSoM and IIT Kharagpur would be the better choice. Both institutions have their own unique strengths and reputations and ultimately, it's important to pick the one that aligns with your goals and interests.
When it comes to choosing a business school, the competition is fierce and the options can be overwhelming. Three institutes that are considered to be among the top in the country are the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).
If you are interested in an operations profile, then VGSOM is a great choice. It is considered to be one of the best institutes in the country for operations specialization, after NITIE. Additionally, the return on investment (ROI) is high. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, may have a lower average package compared to the other two institutes, but it has the prestige of the IIM tag and a decent profile. The hostels are also fabulous, with single rooms available for students.
NMIMS is considered to be more costly and the batch strength is over 500 students. The top 150-200 students get superb packages and roles that are at par with other top B-schools, however, the next lot of students may have a lot of start-ups, etc. If you want to play safe, VGSOM or IIM Ranchi might be the best option.
However, if you are willing to take a risk, NMIMS might be a good choice as the profiles there are really good. It's ultimately up to you to decide which institute aligns best with your career goals and objectives. Rest assured, whichever institute you choose, you will be choosing a great institution as all three are among the top institutes in the country.
When considering graduate business programs, it is important to weigh the various factors that may influence your decision. IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) has a long legacy and robust alumni network, spanning over 25 years. In contrast, IIM Nagpur, a newer institution, has graduated only three batches so far. VGSoM also boasts a spacious campus of 2100 acres, while IIM Nagpur does not have its own campus.
While the fees for both programs are roughly the same, the average package at VGSoM is significantly higher at INR 19.36 LPA compared to INR 13.21 LPA at IIM Nagpur. However, IIM Nagpur does offer a unique opportunity for students to spend one trimester at IIM Ahmedabad and receive mentorship from the institution's faculty. Additionally, for some individuals, the IIM tag may hold additional prestige.
It's worth noting that the IIM tag is highly respected for older IIMs and certain regional campuses such as IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, and IIM Ranchi. However, for baby IIMs like IIM Nagpur, the tag may not hold as much weight when compared to an esteemed institution like VGSoM which holds the IIT tag and offers an MBA program that is semester based, while IIM Nagpur offers a trimester-based postgraduate program.
In 2022, the VGSOM IIT Kharagpur business school achieved a 100% placement rate for its students. All 97 students who registered for the placement process were successfully placed in jobs. The highest salary package offered during the placement process was 31.98 LPA, while the average package was 19.36 LPA. These strong placement results demonstrate the success of VGSOM IIT Kharagpur in preparing its students for the job market and the value that employers place on its graduates.
Here is an individual's experience at IIT Roorkee, which was one in which he received admission to the institute in 2004 after having eight years of work experience. At that time, the management programs at IITs were relatively new and placements were not as strong as they are now. Despite this, he decided to attend IITR and focus on their studies and enjoying their MBA experience, rather than worrying about job prospects. As a result, he performed well academically and was able to secure an okay job in the IT industry. Through hard work and dedication, he was able to triple his salary within four years and work on projects in various countries. Ultimately, he retired in 2010 to travel and is still doing so seven years later. He believes that both IITs and new IIMs are good options for business education and that it ultimately depends on the individual's goals and priorities. He advises focusing on academics and enjoying the experience, as a job will eventually be obtained.

Deciding Factor:
- Many Business schools today are student-driven businesses and it has nothing to do with anyone else. No other factors such as faculty, infrastructure, knowledge capital do not matter as much. If the infrastructure were the issue then FMS or JBIMS would have been a long way behind. Most of the reputed B-Schools are all about their students, clubs, events, committees, placement drives, etc.
- Alumni is one of the most important factors to consider for choosing a B-School. That is why many management institutes like FMS, JBIMS, IMT- GZBD thrives.
- What activity you are deciding on, in an enterprise college is categorized into clubs and committees, business college events (this one receives you plenty of prize cash too), academics (good academics and accurate CGPA offers better placements).
- Rankings no longer matter much for the pinnacle 10–15 schools.
- Placements depend a lot on alumni base and past history. For most business schools the percentage of companies coming back for placement is around 50%. It is all about reinventing the contacts and alumni are the best options for that.
- You may hear a certain institute is better for Finance or Marketing. Which is not entirely true. Placement depends on hard work.
Go through the factors given above and choose the institute that fits these factors.
