What is the GMAT Exam?

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an entrance exam used by business schools worldwide for admission to MBA programs. It is also used for admission to other business-related fields like Finance and Accountancy, as well as doctoral-level business programs.

The exam is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

GMAT exam dates are available throughout the year for both test center-delivered and at-home formats. As of 2026, there are around 40 GMAT test centers in India.

GMAT Pattern and Syllabus 2026

The GMAT syllabus is designed to evaluate critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills. The GMAT Focus has 3 sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights.

The total number of questions is 64. The duration of the GMAT exam is 2 hours 15 minutes, including an optional 10-minute break.

GMAT Exam Fee 2026

The GMAT exam fee in India is USD $275 (approx. INR 25,190) for the test center-delivered exam. The fee for the GMAT Online exam is USD $300 (approx. INR 27,480).

An 18% GST is added at the time of payment. This makes the total registration fee USD $324.50 (approx. INR 29,730) for the test center-delivered exam and USD $354 (approx. INR 32,010) for the GMAT Online exam. Payment is made in USD, and the bank deducts the equivalent INR amount at the prevailing exchange rate.

GMAT Fee Waiver 2026

GMAC provides up to 10 GMAT fee waivers to accepting universities at their request. The universities set their own eligibility criteria for students to get the fee waiver coupon.

These coupons are valid for 1 year. Candidates need to contact universities to understand their eligibility requirements and apply for the same. The fee waiver code from the university can be used while registering for the GMAT exam. Each fee waiver code applies to the entire GMAT fee and must be used by the expiration date given.

GMAT Booking 2026

GMAT booking can be done online by following the process below:

  1. Create an mba.com account and provide the required details.
  2. Click on the "Register" button on the My Account page.
  3. Provide the personal information and other details necessary for registration.
  4. Pick a test center (if applicable), exam date, and time.
  5. Make the payment.
  6. You will receive an email confirming your registration and containing all the required details.

GMAT Eligibility

  • Anyone with a valid Indian passport can take the GMAT.
  • For candidates aged 13-17, a consent form from the parent or guardian is required.

What if I am not able to provide the required ID?

If you are not able to provide the required ID for any reason, contact testsecurity@gmac.com at least 10 days before the exam date. The approval from test security will be needed in such a case.

GMAT Scores 2026

The GMAT score is based on performance across 3 equally weighted sections. It reflects overall aptitude for management education.

  • Total Score Range: 205-805 (10-point increments).
  • Section Score Range: 60-90 (1-point increments per section).
  • Unanswered Questions: Penalties apply, so answering all questions within the time limit is important.

After completing the exam, unofficial section-wise and total scores appear on the screen. These cannot be saved or recorded.

The official score report is available in the candidate's mba.com account within 3-5 days. It includes performance by section, question type, content domain, time management, and comparison with other applicants to the same programs.

  • Free score sending: Up to 5 programs within 48 hours of receiving the report. After this limit, additional score report fees apply.
  • Report details: Each report contains scores from one exam only and cannot be recalled once sent.
  • Score validity: Scores older than 5 years require special permission to send (up to 10 years, subject to GMAT rules).

How many times can I take the GMAT exam?

There is no lifetime limit on the number of attempts. However, you can take the exam a maximum of 5 times in a rolling 12-month period, including both test center-delivered and online test.

There has to be a 16-day gap between two consecutive exams.
