Hansraj College Hostel Overview

Hansraj College, Delhi was established in July 1948 by the D.A.V. College Managing Committee. It was founded in memory of Mahatma Hansraj, the founder Principal of D.A.V. College, Lahore.

The Hansraj College Hostel for boys was established in 1954 under the guidance of the then Principal Dr. G. L. Datta. The hostel campus is spacious and provides accommodation to about 200 undergraduate male students from all sections of society.

Hostel Facilities

The boys' hostel has 128 well-furnished rooms, a dining hall, a common room, a kitchen, and arrangements for indoor games and a gymnasium. A well-furnished Visitor's Room and a Guest Room are also available.

• Hot and cold water is available in bathrooms.
• Power backup is available 24 hours a day from a generator of 62.5 KVA capacity.
• The hostel was completely renovated for the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi in October 2010.

Girls Hostel

The Hansraj College Girls Hostel started from the academic session 2022-2023. Its infrastructure includes round-the-clock power supply, hot and cold water, comfortable rooms, and clean toilets.

Other amenities include a hygienic environment, a nutritious menu with variety, laundry support, and 24-hour security.

Security and Connectivity

The entire hostel campus is Wi-Fi enabled with free internet access. This creates a cooperative and secular environment for all residents.

C.C.T.V. cameras are installed at locations such as the hostel gates, dining hall, and grocery store. This is to ensure a secure environment for students.

Discipline Rules

The college promotes self-discipline and a high degree of integrity among students. Students are encouraged to live in harmony and mutual cooperation like one big family.

Students must keep the hostel free from alcohol and smoking to ensure a pollution-free environment. They must also refrain from any unlawful act, including ragging, to avoid severe disciplinary action.

Hostel Administration

The Hostel is managed by the Warden and Deputy Warden on behalf of the Principal. General policy matters are formulated by the Hostel Committee, with the Warden as convener.

The Committee comprises the Principal, Vice-Principal, Warden, Deputy Warden, ex-Warden, Teacher In-charges of all departments, and four teachers nominated by the Warden. The administrative staff works with the Hostel Council, an elected representative body of residents.

The day-to-day working of the Hostel is supervised by the Hostel Manager. Accounts and office matters are handled by the Hostel Assistant/Accountant.

Eligibility for Hostel Admission

Admission to the Hostel is granted on the basis of academic merit and interview. Only undergraduate male and female students who secured admission to the College are eligible to apply.

Students whose parents reside in Delhi or its neighborhood, the National Capital Region (NCR), are not eligible. Admission to the Hostel cannot be claimed as a matter of right by any student.

All admissions to the Hostel are considered afresh. Residents must apply for readmission every year and go through all requirements applicable to a new admission. No student is allowed to stay for more than three years of degree courses in the Hostel.

Readmission and Day Scholars

Readmission to the Hostel may be denied in a subsequent year of study in the College. Subject to the availability of seats, a few day scholars may be admitted to the Hostel.

These day scholars must be in the second or third year of their course of study. Their parents must not be residing in Delhi or its neighborhood (NCR).

They must have secured at least the minimum percentage of marks in their first and second year University examinations. They must also have no past record of any act of indiscipline or misbehavior in the College.
