Hostel Administration

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) manages its hostels through a Hostel Management Committee. The committee is headed by a chairperson.

The hostels are managed by Chief Wardens. They are assisted by Wardens and other hostel staff.

Hostel Locations

MAHE hostels are spread over three campuses. These are the Health Sciences campus, the MIT campus at Manipal, and the Mangalore campus at Mangalore.

The hostels for Medical, Dental, Para-Medical, Nursing, and Life Sciences colleges are located in the Health Sciences Campus. These are administered by the Chief Warden (Health Sciences).

The hostels for Engineering, Management, and other institutes are in the Manipal Institute of Technology Campus. These are administered by the Chief Warden (MIT). The hostels at the Mangalore Campus are administered by the Chief Warden, Mangalore.

Hostel Staff and Security

There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Each hostel has Wardens drawn from the teaching faculty of the colleges. They are responsible for day-to-day functioning, such as discipline and maintenance of the building.

Additional hostel staff includes Caretakers, Block Supervisors, Attendants, and Housekeeping personnel.

Each hostel is secured with Access Control Doors. These are accessible only to residents. CCTV is mounted at the entrance of all hostels. CCTV cameras are installed in the corridors of some hostels, and installation is underway in others. The entrance of each hostel is also manned by security personnel.

Room Types and Allotment

Hostels have a variety of rooms. These include Single AC, Double AC, Single non-AC with attached washroom, Single non-AC with common washrooms, and Double non-AC with common washrooms.

Rooms are allotted to new students as per a pattern. Students are allowed to migrate to a room of their choice through a waiting list. It is mandatory for first-year undergraduate (UG) students to stay in hostels.

Maintenance and upkeep activities of the hostels are outsourced. These are closely monitored by the management.

Amenities and Services

Each hostel is equipped with round-the-clock Wi-Fi, solar hot water, backup electricity, and normal running water.

Other amenities include large screen LED TVs, Reading Rooms, three-way filtered drinking water, and Night Canteens.

Laundry services are provided by private vendors. They collect and deliver clothes in the hostels. Seasonal fruits are available in vegetable shops within the campus.

Mess Facilities

Messes are common for both boys and girls. They are centrally located.

MAHE approved service providers run the messes. These providers are Chef-on-wheels and Spice-'n-Chefs. There are a total of four outlets, two each by each vendor.
