Almas is an internationally trained and India qualified human rights lawyer, currently working as an Assistant Professor in Law at the National Law School of India University. Her research focuses on equality and discrimination law, intersectionality theory, affirmative action, and constitutional design.

She has international and national work experience. Internationally, she has worked with the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford Human Rights Hub, UNITAR, UN International Law Commission, and DCAF – a Security Sector Organisation in Geneva. She also convened the Decolonising the Law Discussion Group and the Criminal Law Discussion Group at the Faculty of Law. Nationally, she has worked with Centre for Law and Policy Research, where she gained experience as a litigation lawyer in High Courts and Supreme Courts, on issues of trans rights, caste matters and constitutional law. Additionally, she has been involved in grassroots level and high-level advocacy on legislations of human interest and its implementation.

She completed her DPhil (PhD) from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Sandra Fredman. Almas possesses Bar Council Qualification to practice in India and has worked in dispute resolution.
