About Bachelor of Computer Applications [BCA] + Master of Computer Applications [MCA]
The Integrated BCA + MCA (iMCA) programme at Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), Guwahati is a comprehensive 5-year full-time programme spanning 10 semesters, offered under the School of Technology, Department of Computer Applications, at the Azara Campus. The programme is designed to build a strong foundation in computer applications and software development, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills in areas such as AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, and Full Stack Development. The total fees for the complete 5-year programme amount to Rs. 4,09,000 (including admission and annual fees). With 60 seats available, admission is based on a personal interview and past academic record. The iMCA is popular among students who wish to earn both a BCA and an MCA degree in a single integrated pathway, avoiding the need for a separate MCA entrance exam after graduation.
Admissions for the 2026 batch are currently open. Applications can be submitted online at erp.dbuniversity.ac.in. The 2026 batch is expected to commence in August 2026, following the pattern of previous years. Students are advised to apply early as seats are limited to 60.

- The programme includes NPTEL/SWAYAM course completion as a mandatory component in Semester IX, encouraging students to pursue certified online learning.
- The iMCA is offered exclusively at the Azara Campus of ADBU, Guwahati, which is conveniently located near Guwahati Airport.
- Students completing the iMCA earn two degrees (BCA and MCA) from a NAAC-accredited, UGC-recognised university, making them eligible for both industry roles and academic/research positions.

ADBU iBCA + MCA FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the standalone BCA and the Integrated BCA + MCA at ADBU? Which one should I choose?
Ans. The standalone BCA is a 3-year programme that awards only the BCA degree, while the Integrated BCA + MCA (iMCA) is a 5-year programme that awards both BCA and MCA degrees. If you are certain about pursuing a career in IT and want to reach the MCA level without appearing for a separate entrance exam like NIMCET after graduation, the iMCA is the better choice. The iMCA also has a more advanced curriculum in the later semesters, covering AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and a major research project. However, if you are unsure about committing to 5 years, the standalone BCA with the option to join MCA later is also available at ADBU.
Ques. What is the minimum eligibility for the Integrated BCA + MCA at ADBU, and is it different from the standalone BCA?
Ans. Yes, the eligibility criteria are slightly stricter for the iMCA. You need a minimum of 50% aggregate in Class XII (compared to 45% for the standalone BCA), and you must have studied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Information Technology as one of the subjects in Class XII. This is because the iMCA curriculum is more rigorous and assumes a stronger quantitative and technical foundation from the outset.
Ques. Can I exit the iMCA programme after 3 years with just a BCA degree if I change my mind?
Ans. Yes, the iMCA programme at ADBU has built-in exit options. After 3 years, you can exit with a BCA degree. After 4 years, you can exit with both a BCA and a PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications). After completing all 5 years, you earn both the BCA and MCA degrees. This flexibility makes the iMCA a low-risk choice, as you are not locked into the full 5-year commitment from day one.
Ques. Is the iMCA programme offered at both ADBU campuses, or only at one?
Ans. The Integrated MCA programme is offered exclusively at the Azara Campus of ADBU, which is located at Airport Road, Azara, Guwahati. The Azara Campus is conveniently situated near Guwahati Airport and is well-connected to the city. Students who prefer the Tapesia Campus (the main residential campus) should note that the iMCA is not available there and would need to commute or arrange accommodation near the Azara Campus.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the Integrated BCA + MCA from ADBU?
Ans. Graduates of the iMCA programme are equipped for a wide range of roles in the IT industry and research sector. Potential career paths include Software Developer, Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, System Architect, Full Stack Developer, Cloud Solutions Architect, and Research Scientist. The programme's emphasis on AI, Deep Learning, Data Science, and a major project in the final year makes graduates particularly competitive for roles in emerging technology domains. ADBU's Placement Cell actively facilitates campus recruitment with IT companies and tech firms.
Ques. Are there any additional fees or costs in the MCA phase (Years 4 and 5) that students should be aware of?
Ans. Yes, the tuition fee increases from Rs. 29,000 per semester in the BCA phase to Rs. 32,000 per semester in the MCA phase (Years 4 and 5). Additionally, Semesters IX and X involve a major project, which may require expenses for research materials, software tools, or travel depending on the nature of the project. Semester IX also requires completion of an NPTEL/SWAYAM online course (8-12 weeks), which is generally free but may involve a certification fee if you opt for a proctored exam certificate. University Registration Fees and Examination Fees are also charged separately as prescribed from time to time.
