Ans. The FDP is open to teachers, lecturers, and researchers from management institutes, degree colleges, university departments, and professional training institutes. Prospective management educators who have not yet taken up a full-time teaching role may also apply. Faculty from AICTE-approved institutions are eligible for AICTE-sponsored seats that cover the full program fee of INR 35,400, making participation more financially accessible across institutions of all sizes.

Ques. What is the structure of IIM Shillong FDP and what does it cover?

Ans. The FDP runs for 3 weeks at the IIM Shillong campus in a fully residential format. The first 2 weeks cover research methodology, pedagogy, learning outcomes design, and case-based teaching skills. The final week focuses on the participant chosen specialization from areas including HR, finance, marketing, operations management, and business analytics. Participants stay on campus throughout, facilitating immersive learning and peer interaction.

Ques. What is case-based teaching and why does the FDP emphasize it?

Ans. Case-based teaching is the primary pedagogy used at IIMs, where real organizational situations are analyzed by students to build decision-making and problem-solving abilities. The IIM Shillong FDP trains participating faculty to write, structure, and teach using management cases, enabling them to introduce this rigorous method at their home institutions. This elevates the standard of management education delivered in colleges and universities across India.

Ques. How does the AICTE sponsorship work for IIM Shillong FDP participants?

Ans. AICTE sponsors eligible faculty from AICTE-approved institutions to attend FDPs at premier institutions including IIMs, with the program fee borne by AICTE. Faculty must first secure a nomination from AICTE under the relevant FDP scheme before applying to IIM Shillong. AICTE publishes specific timelines and nomination procedures on its official portal for each academic year, and these are independent of IIM Shillong admission announcements.

Ques. Is the IIM Shillong FDP a degree or certificate programme?

Ans. The FDP is a non-degree, short-term executive education initiative. Participants who successfully complete the 3-week residential programme receive a certificate of participation from IIM Shillong. This certificate is recognized by institutions for faculty promotion purposes but does not confer a postgraduate or doctoral qualification. It is entirely separate from degree programmes such as the PGP, PGPEx, or the doctoral programs offered by IIM Shillong.

Ques. Can faculty from non-management disciplines attend IIM Shillong FDP?

Ans. The FDP is primarily designed for faculty teaching in management and allied disciplines such as commerce, economics, and information systems. Faculty from non-management backgrounds who wish to integrate management pedagogy or case-based teaching into their curriculum may also apply. However, the specialized final week covers management-specific functional areas, so participants from purely technical or science disciplines may find some content less directly applicable to their teaching context.
