MPBOU M.Ed FAQs

Ques. What is the M.Ed. SEDE from MPBOU and how is it different from a regular M.Ed.?

Ans. The M.Ed. SEDE (Special Education Distance Education) from MPBOU is a specialized postgraduate programme in special education, recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Unlike a regular M.Ed. which focuses on general education theory and practice, the M.Ed. SEDE focuses specifically on advanced special education, covering disability-specific assessment, curriculum design, inclusive education, research methodology, and therapeutics. Graduates receive an RCI CRR number at the M.Ed. level, qualifying them for senior roles in special education institutions, teacher training colleges, and rehabilitation centres. A regular M.Ed. does not provide RCI recognition.

Ques. Is the M.Ed. SEDE from MPBOU valid for teaching in special education colleges or universities?

Ans. Yes, the M.Ed. SEDE from MPBOU is recognized by RCI and is a valid qualification for teaching in RCI-recognized special education institutions. However, for teaching in regular universities or colleges (non-special education), a general M.Ed. or M.A. in Education is typically required. For NET/SET eligibility in Education, candidates should verify with UGC/NTA whether the M.Ed. SEDE qualifies, as this depends on the specific subject code and UGC norms. Candidates are advised to check the latest UGC NET eligibility criteria before applying.

Ques. What is the dissertation requirement in the M.Ed. SEDE programme?

Ans. The M.Ed. SEDE programme includes a mandatory Dissertation (Course Code D) in the second year. Students are required to conduct original research in the field of special education, focusing on their chosen specialization (HI/VI/ID/LD). The dissertation involves identifying a research problem, reviewing literature, collecting and analyzing data, and writing a research report. The dissertation is supervised by a faculty member at the allotted study centre. Successful completion of the dissertation is mandatory for the award of the M.Ed. SEDE degree. Students who do not submit the dissertation within the maximum programme duration of 5 years will have their admission cancelled.

Ques. Can I pursue the M.Ed. SEDE in a different specialization than my B.Ed. Special Education specialization?

Ans. Generally, the M.Ed. SEDE specialization should match the B.Ed. Special Education specialization (e.g., if you have a B.Ed. in Hearing Impairment, you should pursue M.Ed. in Hearing Impairment). However, candidates who have a B.Ed. General + Diploma in Special Education may have more flexibility. The application form allows candidates to select their specialization preference. The final allotment is based on entrance exam merit and study centre availability. Candidates are advised to contact MPBOU's Department of Special Education directly to clarify specialization eligibility before applying.

Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the M.Ed. SEDE from MPBOU?

Ans. Graduates of the M.Ed. SEDE programme can pursue careers as: Senior Special Educator in special schools and inclusive schools, Teacher Trainer in RCI-recognized B.Ed. Special Education colleges, Rehabilitation Specialist in government and private rehabilitation centres, Research Associate in special education research institutions, Programme Coordinator in NGOs working with persons with disabilities, and Consultant for inclusive education programmes under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The M.Ed. SEDE is also the minimum qualification required for teaching in B.Ed. Special Education programmes, making it essential for those aspiring to enter teacher education.

Ques. What documents are required at the time of application and admission for M.Ed. SEDE?

Ans. At the time of online application, you need to upload: B.Ed. Special Education marksheet and certificate, RCI CRR certificate (mandatory), passport-size photograph, and caste certificate (if applicable). At the time of document verification after counselling, you will need: original B.Ed. Special Education certificate and marksheets, RCI CRR certificate (original), domicile certificate (for MP residents), caste/category certificate (if applicable), disability certificate/UDID card (if PwD), B.Ed. General + D.Ed. Special Education certificates (if applicable), and PGPDSE programme certificate (if applicable). Ensure all documents are self-attested and in the prescribed format.
