SSCET Salem BE Lateral FAQs
Ques. Do lateral entry B.E. students at SSCET get the same Anna University degree as regular B.E. students?
Ans. Yes. Lateral entry B.E. students at SSCET Salem receive the same Anna University degree certificate as regular four-year B.E. students. The degree does not mention lateral entry on the certificate. The only difference is the duration of study: lateral entry students complete the programme in three years by joining directly in the second year.
Ques. Can a Diploma holder in any branch apply to any B.E. branch through lateral entry at SSCET?
Ans. Not necessarily. Anna University and DOTE specify eligible Diploma branches for each B.E. lateral entry programme. For example, a Diploma in Computer Engineering is eligible for B.E. CSE lateral entry, while a Diploma in Civil Engineering may not be eligible for ECE lateral entry. Candidates should check Anna University TNEA lateral entry eligibility norms for their specific Diploma-branch combination before applying.
Ques. Is the TNEA Lateral Entry 2026 merit calculation based on overall Diploma CGPA or only final year marks?
Ans. TNEA lateral entry merit is calculated on the overall Diploma CGPA or aggregate marks across all semesters or years, as per Anna University norms for that year. It is not limited to final year marks alone. B.Sc candidates are ranked on aggregate percentage. Candidates should check the official Anna University lateral entry notification for the exact merit calculation formula for 2026.
Ques. Are lateral entry students at SSCET eligible for Anna University rank certificate or top-ranking distinctions?
Ans. Yes. Lateral entry students are eligible for Anna University rank certificates, distinctions, and merit scholarships based on their performance in semesters three through eight (the three years they study). Their rank is computed within the lateral entry cohort as per Anna University examination regulations.
Ques. What happens to lateral entry students who do not get a seat in their preferred branch through TNEA counselling?
Ans. Candidates who are not allotted their preferred branch through the government quota can approach SSCET Salem’s admissions office for management quota availability. Management quota seats are filled directly by the institution after TNEA counselling rounds. Candidates may also participate in TNEA sliding rounds or spot admission rounds if the process allows for reallotment.
