MGU B.Sc Nursing FAQs
Ques. Is NEET required for B.Sc Nursing admission at MGU/CPAS Kottayam?
Ans. No, NEET is not required for B.Sc Nursing admission at MGU/CPAS. Admission is entirely merit-based on Plus Two (10+2) marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Candidates register through the LBS Centre (for Government quota) or CPAS (for CPAS quota) and submit their qualifying exam marks. The rank list is prepared based on these marks, and allotment is done centrally. This is a significant advantage for students who may not have qualified NEET but have strong Plus Two scores.
Ques. How many seats are available for B.Sc Nursing at CPAS/SME, and which centres offer the course?
Ans. B.Sc Nursing is offered at nine SME centres with a total of 410 seats: Gandhinagar/Kottayam (50), Puthuppally (50), Pala (50), Pathanamthitta (50), Manimalakunnu/Koothattukulam (40), Nedumkandam (60), Kottarakara (40), Kanjirappally (40), and Seethathode (30). At each centre, 50% of seats are Government allotment (via LBS) and 50% are CPAS quota. This wide network of centres across Kerala makes CPAS/SME one of the largest nursing education providers in the state.
Ques. What is the total fee for B.Sc Nursing at CPAS/SME, and are there any additional charges?
Ans. The total fee for a CPAS/Government seat is Rs. 4,20,300 for the entire 4-year course, as per the official 2025 fee structure. This includes tuition fees (Rs. 83,025 per year), special fees (clinical affiliation, lab, library, stationery, etc.), admission fee, and caution deposit. The caution deposit of Rs. 10,000 is refundable at course completion. Examination fees payable to KUHS are separate. Transportation charges are at actual rates. Hostel fees, if applicable, are charged separately by the respective centre.
Ques. Is the B.Sc Nursing degree from CPAS/SME (MGU/KUHS) valid for working abroad?
Ans. Yes, the B.Sc Nursing degree from CPAS/SME is affiliated to KUHS and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). This makes it valid for registration with State Nursing Councils across India and for international employment. For working in Gulf countries, graduates need to clear the PROMETRIC exam (for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman) or the DHA/HAAD exam (for UAE). For the UK, the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration process applies. For the USA, the NCLEX-RN exam is required. Kerala nurses are highly regarded internationally, and CPAS/SME graduates have a strong track record of overseas employment.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc Nursing at CPAS/SME and at other private nursing colleges in Kerala?
Ans. CPAS/SME is a Government of Kerala body, which means the fee structure is regulated and significantly lower than most private nursing colleges in Kerala. The total fee of Rs. 4,20,300 for 4 years is considerably less than many private colleges that charge Rs. 6-10 lakh or more. Additionally, CPAS/SME follows the KUHS curriculum and has well-established clinical training facilities. The Government quota seats (50%) are filled through the transparent LBS merit-based process, ensuring fair admission. However, private colleges may offer additional facilities, hostel amenities, or placement support that CPAS/SME centres may vary on.
Ques. Can a student change their centre preference after allotment in CPAS/SME B.Sc Nursing?
Ans. Centre changes after final allotment are generally not permitted under the CPAS admission process. Students must carefully submit their centre preferences in order of priority during the option registration phase, as allotment is done based on rank and preference. However, during supplementary allotment rounds, candidates who were not allotted their preferred centre in earlier rounds may get an opportunity to register fresh options. Students are advised to carefully review the CPAS admission guidelines and the allotment schedule on cpasadmissions.com before submitting preferences.
