Established in 2008, NLUO Cuttack is a state university recognized by the UGC and Bar Council of India (BCI), and is NAAC Grade A accredited. Ranked 15th out of 40 law colleges in India by NIRF 2025. Offers UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs in disciplines such as Law and Management.

LLM is the most popular program, with admissions based on CLAT scores; the first-year fee is INR 1.67 lakhs. Library at NLUO: An Overview

The library is a central part of National Law University Odisha (NLUO) in Cuttack. It has been developed over the last seventeen years to match the quality of libraries at other leading institutions.

The library resources are updated regularly to reflect new developments. Both the academic and residential blocks have round-the-clock internet connectivity through a leased line using Wi-Fi technology. This allows access to e-resources from anywhere within the university at any time.

Library Objectives

The library has a clear set of goals to support the university community. These objectives guide its services and collections.

  • To provide a good library environment for the academic community.
  • To offer a modern system for storing, retrieving, and sharing information.
  • To support students and faculty in teaching and learning by providing quality research resources.
  • To use information technology for the benefit of the legal community.
  • To promote open access and share information with other libraries worldwide.

Library Sections and Collections

The library is divided into two main sections for easier use: the book section and the journal section. The book section holds textbooks and reference books, including encyclopedias on various subjects.

There are more than 15,000 volumes in the book section. The library continues to add new titles from different areas of study.

The journal section contains Bare Acts, current periodicals, legal and non-legal journals, general magazines, newspapers, and back-bound volumes. In addition to the Encyclopaedia of Central Acts and Rules, more than 3,500 Bare Act titles have been procured.

Subscriptions and Special Collections

The library currently subscribes to 3 newspapers. It has also subscribed to 73 periodicals, including International and Comparative Law Quarterly, Harvard Law Review, Law Reports, Weekly Law Reports, All India Law Reports, Supreme Court Cases, Company Cases, Company Law Journal, SEBI and Corporate Laws, Criminal Law Journal, Divorce and Matrimonial Cases, Economics and Political Weekly, Seminar, Harvard Business Review, Management Journal of IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Lucknow), Linux For You, Kurushektra, and Yojana.

The library works to procure back volumes of journals as early as possible. It also holds a separate collection donated by Justice G. K. Mishra.

E-Resources and Digital Services

NLUO has subscribed to several national and international databases to support research. These include Hein Online, Manupatra, EPW, JSTOR, Sage Journals Online, and Westlaw Asia.

The library also provides access to e-books from publishers such as Bloomsbury, Cambridge, and Oxford. A similarity-checking facility for student papers, dissertations, theses, and projects is available through Turnitin software.

The CD/DVD collection includes documents such as Palmer on Company Law, Journal of Indian Law Institute, and Annual Survey of Indian Law.

The Reading Halls of the library are open 24/7 throughout the year. The Circulation Section, however, remains closed on institutional holidays.
