NIA PGDM FAQs

Ques. Is NIA Pune PGDM only for students who want to work in the insurance sector?

Ans. While NIA's PGDM has a strong insurance focus (45% of the curriculum covers insurance subjects), it is not exclusively for insurance sector aspirants. The remaining 55% covers core management subjects like Finance, HR, Marketing, Analytics, and Technology. Graduates work in insurance companies, banks, financial services, technology firms, and consulting. However, students who are not interested in insurance at all may find the curriculum less suited to their goals.

Ques. Why does NIA Pune accept only CAT, XAT, and CMAT? Can I apply with MAT or MAH MBA CET?

Ans. NIA Pune accepts only CAT 2025, XAT 2026, and CMAT 2026 scores. MAT, ATMA, MAH MBA CET, and GMAT are not accepted. This is a deliberate policy to maintain a high academic standard. Candidates who have not appeared for these three exams cannot apply to NIA Pune PGDM.

Ques. What is the age limit for NIA Pune PGDM? Is there any relaxation?

Ans. The upper age limit is 28 years for General, EWS, and OBC-NC candidates, and 30 years for SC, ST, and PWD candidates, calculated as on July 1, 2026. There is no relaxation beyond these limits. This age restriction is unique to NIA Pune and is not common in most other PGDM programs.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for both years at NIA Pune?

Ans. Hostel facility at NIA Pune is available only for the first year. Students must arrange their own accommodation for the second year. The hostel and boarding charges for the first year are Rs. 2,00,000. The 32-acre campus has modern hostel facilities, but the limited availability means students should plan their second-year accommodation in advance.

Ques. What is the placement scenario for NIA Pune PGDM graduates? Which companies recruit?

Ans. NIA Pune has maintained a 100% placement record since the inception of its PGDM program. The 2023-25 batch recorded an average package of Rs. 12.74 LPA, highest of Rs. 20 LPA, and 72 PPOs. Key recruiters include companies from insurance (LIC, GIC, HDFC Life, ICICI Prudential, Bajaj Allianz, etc.), technology, fintech, and financial services sectors. The specialized insurance curriculum makes NIA graduates highly sought after in the insurance industry.

Ques. How is the NIA Pune PGDM merit list prepared? What is the weightage for work experience?

Ans. The NIA Pune PGDM merit list is prepared based on: CAT/XAT/CMAT score (50%), Personal Interview (20%), Group Discussion (15%), past academic record - 10th, 12th, and graduation (10%), and work experience of more than one year (5%). XAT and CMAT percentiles are converted to CAT percentile equivalence before evaluation. Work experience of more than one year gets 5% weightage, which can be a significant advantage for candidates with relevant work experience.
