DTU B.Tech FAQs
Ques. How does JAC Delhi counselling differ from JoSAA for DTU B.Tech admission?
Ans. JAC Delhi is a separate counselling process managed jointly by DTU, NSUT, IGDTUW, IIIT Delhi, and DSEU for Delhi-government engineering colleges. JoSAA handles admissions to IITs, NITs, and centrally funded technical institutes. DTU does not participate in JoSAA, so candidates who want DTU must register separately at jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in using their JEE Main 2026 rank. Both processes use the same JEE Main rank but JAC Delhi has its own schedule and seat matrix.
Ques. Which B.Tech branch at DTU has the highest average placement package?
Ans. CSE consistently fetches the highest packages at DTU, with an average reported at INR 24 LPA in recent seasons. Software Engineering and Mathematics and Computing also attract strong tech offers in the INR 18 to 20 LPA range. Non-tech branches such as Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering see averages in the INR 5 to 8 LPA range, reflecting industry norms rather than any weakness in the programme.
Ques. Can outside Delhi candidates apply for DTU B.Tech under JAC Delhi?
Ans. Yes. JAC Delhi maintains two separate seat pools: a Delhi-region quota and an outside-Delhi quota. Outside-Delhi candidates compete only among themselves for the outside-Delhi seats. In competitive branches like CSE, the outside-Delhi closing rank tends to be tighter than the Delhi-region closing rank. Indicate your region correctly during JAC registration to be placed in the right pool. The process and documents required are the same for both sets of candidates.
Ques. What is the practical difference between Mathematics and Computing and Computer Science at DTU?
Ans. B.Tech Mathematics and Computing integrates higher mathematics, probability, and computational theory with programming. Graduates tend to move toward data science, quantitative research, and algorithmic finance. B.Tech CSE focuses more on software engineering, system design, and full-stack development. Placement profiles differ: MCE attracts quant-heavy firms and analytics companies, while CSE sees broader software development, product, and consulting recruitment. Fee structure and duration are identical for both programmes.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for all admitted B.Tech students at DTU?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at DTU is not guaranteed and is allotted based on availability, distance from home, and category. Students from outside Delhi are generally prioritised. Annual hostel fee is INR 60,000 for a single-seater room, with mess charges of INR 3,480 per month separately. Delhi-based students mostly commute. Apply for hostel through the DTU hostel portal after receiving your provisional admission letter, as hostel applications open post-admission.
